Product Description

The players run around the world trying to acquire exploitation rights to various raw materials (metals, oil and basic vegetal products such as coffee and tobacco). Each country is assigned (randomly) a royalty marker, which triggers payment of royalties to players controlling at least 30% of the corresponding titles when the country is visited. Player's actions on their turn are driven by the outer track. Victory is by elimination, as other players are driven to bankruptcy.

I absolutely fell in love with this game when we were first given it. You are each essentially commodity surveyors, you travel the globe buying up various commodities like Oil, Coffee, Tin etc etc. Doesn't sound amazing, but it really is one of those game that you can play over and over. Unlike the Monopoly style of game, the main strength of this title is that trading is very, very open and easy to do. In Monopoly, being that there are only a very limited number of commodities, you were fairly hard pressed to get a successful transaction. In WoN there are a wide variety, all of which have different costs and amounts you receive if stepped upon. Obviously those that net more, cost more.

The real key to this is that the board is the world. From Europe to Africa to Asia. The real key areas are Russia and the USA, which have a massive bank of commodities. Each time you land on an area, you pick up all of its cards and select 6 or less (I believe) things to buy. You then do this until each player essentially has a set of cards. Each block also has small gap, where you randomly place small commodity tiles at the start. So if one player has a lot of Oil, if you land on the Oil square, you pay up. The game is relatively long, but it's great fun and I was playing it when I was still young in high school, so I'd wager this is a game for 10+ to play. Highly recommended.
