Most Helpful Customer Reviews

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful By G. E. Harrison TOP 500 REVIEWER on 26 Feb 2013
Format: Audio CD
This album features 18 unreleased songs recorded with family and friends over 43 years and covering all Dave's interests from blues to country to classic and modern rock and roll. However, for me the album would be worth buying for three collaborations with sadly deceased performers - the haunting version of "Ramblin' Gal" recorded with sister Jo Ann, the live take of "Dust my blues" with the great Howling Wolf and a lovely version of Leadbelly's "Take this hammer" with Long John Baldry. Luckily there are lots of other highlights as well including a performance of "Needed time" with Eric Bibb, a great version of Tom Waits' "Down in the hole" with vocals from Christine Collister and a rollicking piano blues with Jona Lewie telling the story of the D-Day landings! If you've seen Dave's various bands over the years and his duo and solo appearances you'll know that although he has a deep understanding of the history of blues and rock and roll he has never been a 'heritage act' but has always incorporated modern music. This record also features his daughter Lily doing a beautiful song called "Wasting time" and a great coutryified version of Green Day's "Good riddance". It's great that these recordings have now seen the light of day.
