Product Description

Product Description

After gaining a staunch live reputation and a glut of critically acclaimed singles PAUL HAWKINS & THEE AWKWARD SILENCES finally unleash their debut album upon the world.

Paul is a Bristol-born, London-based outsider singer-songwriter who's darkly humorous tales of rejection alienation and despair have drawn favourable comparisons to the likes of Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Daniel Johnston. Two years ago Paul formed Thee Awkward Silences, with current and ex members of Death In Vegas, Dot Alison, David Cronenberg's Wife and The Beat Maras as a means to articulate his storytelling style of songwriting and make it louder. On record and under the excellent production supervision of drummer and Death In Vegas member Ian Button the full colourful scope of Paul's songs are realised often juxtaposing occasional lyrical bleakness with pop perfection.

"A singer laden with pure charisma" -- NME

"An ace antifolk superstar" -- Time Out London

"someone doing something truly on their own and making the rules up as they go along"
-- Artrocker
