From the minute that "We Are Little Barrie" kicks off, it's obvious just how talented each member of the band is, as each track is littered with unbelievably slick and accomplished guitar licks, riffs, melodies and tricks that take you back to a time when music was about having fun without pretence.
Opener "Free Salute" is immaculately constructed with Barrie's voice and the song's arrangement glued together perfectly. Gloriously retro on album standout "Stones Throw", Little Barrie are flawlessly and unashamedly masters of their field, with fantastic rhythm and a very smooth style which balances lighter, breezier numbers like "Free Salute" with the grittier "Thinking On The Mind".
As a whole, "We Are Little Barrie" is exactly right. Their style can be seen to work both for and against them, as fans of old school music of this kind might feel inclined to reject it on face value, but in all honesty, the songwriting, the delivery of each track, and the achievement of the music prove the worth of this band among its contemporaries and influences.

There seems to have been a glut of old school rock and roll bands surfacing over the last few months. Don't get me wrong, this is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if it means we get some bands like Little Barrie.
For me this album brings to mind a diverse array of artists from The Beatles to Hendrix through the Stones. Little Barrie's retro vibe is created with stripped down, bluesy guitars, funky bass and drums.
The single Free Salute is definately a standout track on the album although Greener Pastures is also great. Overall this is a fun rock and roll album, give it a try and you wont be disappointed.
Long live Rock 'n Roll.

I was lucky to catch this band supporting Paul Weller at Hyde park a couple of years ago and I left having enjoyed Little Barrie more than Paul Weller. Thier debut album is a brilliant blend of 60's sounds ranging from Booker T, The Meters and dare I say it the vocalist sounds similar to a young John Lennon. This 3 piece band all have thier own qualities which is evident in this album and refreshing to hear. If you want to listen to something new but don't want to loose the flavour of the past try this....you won't be dissapointed.

I bought this album on the offchance after reading a review in London Metro and it has been the most pleasant surprise. Brilliant to listen too and I've recommended it to so many people and none of them have been disappointed. There isn't one weak track. I want to tell everyone about it!

Little Barrie are without a doubt one of, if not the best new British band I have heard in a long time, for once a band that concentrates on substance over style. For a debut album this is a corker, every track is a solid tune which is hard to find in a great deal of the new wave of british pop guitar bands. They appear to take influence from various bands of the past (think Hendrix meets the Beatles with a splattering of Muddy Waters and Stone Roses to boot), this is stripped down, Rock n Roll blues. I love it.

This is an absolutely outstanding debut album which bodes well for the band's future. They are all accomplished players, and the arrangements make the most of this fact. A tremendous listen on headphones, this also benefits from a big hi-fi blast.
For originality and panache, Little Barrie put a certain unfathomably famous band from Manchester to shame.

I bought this purely on a review in one of the weekend papers when it came out. Very impressed - it has a funky, soulful sound to it which is complemented by the production (Edwyn Collins) which harks back to a late 60's / early 70's style.

A real grower.
