When I picked this book up I couldn't help wondering if it would be as good as Fulford's first effort. However, I needn't have worried. This story is just as compelling. The hero, Marcus Edenbridge, is suitably sexy and troubled, with a chequered past and a present mystery to solve regarding the death of his brother. Claire Davenport is an attractive heroine in every way and is fleeing from an arranged marriage and the clutches of her unpleasant, domineering uncle. The post of governess to Marcus' ward seems to offer the sanctuary Claire needs until she comes of age and is free of his guardianship. When the inevitable romantic attraction develops between Claire and her aristocratic employer, she resists it, knowing that Marcus is out of her league. He, on the other hand, is determined to make her his own. The plot is pacy and has some surprising developments with lots of obstacles in the path of true love. It makes for a page-turning read. I also liked the setting which was slightly different from the norm. The author has an excellent feel for the period too which added to my enjoyment of the story. I would definitely recommend this book to other lovers of the Regency period.
