Reviews

From Amazon.co.uk

Thanks to Mike Myers' wonderfully rude, lowbrow humour and his full-bodied understanding of who his character is, Wayne's World proved to be that rare thing: a successful transition of a Saturday Night Live sketch to the big screen. Wayne Campbell (Myers) and his nerdy pal Garth (Dana Carvey) are teens who live at home and have their own low-rent cable-access show in Aurora, Illinios, in which they celebrate their favourite female film stars and heavy-metal bands. When a Chicago TV station smells a potential youth-audience ratings hit, the station's weasely executive (Rob Lowe) tries to co-opt the show--and steal Wayne's new rock 'n' roll girlfriend (Tia Carrere) at the same time. Like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure before it (and the later Detroit Rock City), this is a film that affectionately parodies and celebrates slacker teenage culture. It's also filled with all kinds of knowing spoofs of film conventions, from Wayne talking to the camera (while forbidding other characters to do so) and hilariously self-conscious product placements, to labelling a moment a "Gratuitous Sex Scene". Dumb yet clever--and very funny. --Marshall Fine, Amazon.com

Long before the world ever heard of Austin Powers, Mike Myers was infusing pop culture with the catch phrases and wild doings of Wayne Campbell and hastening the move of multiple Saturday Night Live characters to the big screen over the course of succeeding years. Wayne and his trusty sidekick Garth raked up at the box office and left us with a classic comedy that will be making people laugh for years to come. Aside from all the Wayne-isms and Garth-isms, this movie changed forever the way we listen to a number of classic rock songs.
Okay - let's review. Wayne lives in his parents' basement, but it's okay because he and his buddy Garth have their very own public access show on their local cable station in Aurora, Illinois. Wayne thinks his dream of doing Wayne's World for a living (and thus escaping from the world of name tags and hair nets) has come true when he gets an offer to do the show on a Chicago TV station, but there's a certain matter with the fine print. Will Wayne sell out? Yeah. And monkeys might fly out of my butt.
Myers and Carvey take their SNL trademark routines as far as they can, going a little too far once or twice (as with the Scooby Doo and Mega-happy endings - although they did make possible the much-appreciated Tia Carrere bikini scene), and it's not hard to see why: Wayne's World was the most popular SNL skit for a good two to three years running. The film has a surprising number of familiar faces: besides the aforementioned Tia Carrere, you get Rob Lowe (fresh off a certain little infamous home movie), Brian Doyle-Murray, Ed O'Neill, Lara Flynn Boyle, Donna Dixon, and - making cameo appearances - Chris Farley, Meatloaf, and Alice Cooper. Of course, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey take center stage at all times.

The comedy genious, Mike Myers is superb once again in this classic comedy.Wayne and Garth have a cable access show and are underground heroes in there hometown. Things are going well until the pair decide to "sell-out" and things start to go wrong. Full of stereotypes, cheesy jokes and one-liners. The more you watch this film, the more you love it. Hidden jokes and special guest cameo's make this film offer something everytme you watch it. Truly a masterpiece.

As a middle-aged lover of world and art-house cinema, the lovably goofy Waynes World might seem an odd one for me to give five stars to.

I've never owned it myself but as it's just been on Channel 4, I thought I'd see it once again, to see how it still fares. Though it's far from being my favourite movie of all time, it still hits the targets its designed to and manages to smell sweet when compared to the more recent torrent of comparative sewage that is hailed as gross-out 'comedy'.

Oddly, perhaps, it's impossible to dislike or find the two (Mike Myers and Dana Carvey) super-geeks annoying. The film is bright and breezy and rolls along like a continual Friday night out and the rock music references, including the famous Bohemian Rhapsody sung in their tiny car, always welcome.

The dream women in their lives are indeed good-looking girls and their portrayal are a fair balance between teenage male hormonal fantasy and real people with substance and character.

Considering Waynes World is supposed to be a Cult Movie, I'm surprised how few reviews there are here, on Amazon. Whether new audiences will ever warm to WW is a different matter altogether but for of us who's seen it come, go and now hang around, it still offers many pleasures.

Wayne's World is the classic 90's comedy that turned Mike Myers into the star he is today, however, Dana Carvey's career ended in stinkers like The Master Of Disguise. Wayne's World is the hilarious story of Wayne and Garth, who run a public access cable program, but it's completely changed before their very eyes when a sleazy tv executive offers to buy the rights to the show for 10,000 dollars. The film spawned a sequel, Wayne's World 2, and has been quoted ever since it's release. Whether you're watching it with your parents or with your 12 year old son, Wayne's World is a hilarious film and one of the best movies of the 90's.

Bought this for myself to watch on my birthday. Very basic packaging with no accompanying booklet, but a nice retro cover (the original film poster I think) Great quality DVD with some fun extras such as the usually commentaries and some interesting cast and crew interviews including Rob Lowe, Mike Myers and Penelope Spheeris. This isn't the product in the picture as it doesn't have the big ugly price sticker on the case, which I was pleased about.

i remember watching this as a teenager back in 92 and thinking it was soooo funny. haven't watched it for many years now but decided to get it as one of my 14 year old son's birthday presents. he laughed all the way through it, seems its still a great teen film (although i have to admit i still found it amusing too)
