I bought this book about 15 years ago and I loved it then.
The book is an anthology of Sufi writings collected by Indries Shah.
You can dip in for a quick glimpse of wisdom, or take time and really immerse in the teachings. All of them are quite brief, readable, and the wonderful thing, it is the reader that determines how much they get out of them.
I gave away my original copy many years ago, and then later regretted the loss and purchased it again about 5 or 6 years ago. I hadn't looked at it for a while, until this week and then after reading passages, remembered why I cherished it. I'm buying another copy for my 17 year old niece, who is studying philosophy.
Humour is also never very far away, in Sufi teachings. Here is a taster...
"A man once asked a camel whether he preferred going uphill or downhill.
The camel said: "What is important to me is not the uphill or the downhill - it is the load!"
Well worth a place on any bookshelf.
