Product Description

Product Description

Three teenagers, all alike in misery, but in nothing else. One is boiling over with anger, grief, confusion and contrition as he relives his abandonment by his mother and the death of the little sister left in his (7 year old) care. The next has a grandmother suffering from Alzheimer's, but does not realise, and so spends all his waking hours worrying about what she might be up to next. The third is the daughter of a successful business woman and a heart-throb soap actor, who are constantly at war with each other, while attempting to present a happy, united and quite bogus family picture to the world. Their worlds collide when disaster strikes at the annual fair.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written and good for those who don't like long books, 15 Mar 2008
By NM (England) - See all my reviews
Waving not drowning is narrated by three different characters each with their own problems. There is Lyall who is haunted by past memories and anger that he is to be moved from his foster care home yet again. Jay has to cope alone with his nan who is loosing her memory. Lastly Fiona fears she is pregnant, but also has to deal with the embarassment of her famous fathers affair which has been exposed to the public.

Despite it's short length Rosie Rushton has managed to describe the characters in great depth and has presented an interesting read. The story helped provide an understanding as to what it would be like to be in these situations. The only weakness I personally have for the book is its length, but this may be useful to reluctant readers.
