WAVESAs a huge Rhydian fan I didn't really expect not to like this new album, despite it being a significant move away from his previous classically influenced albums. Knowing it was a new wave era album also added to the high probability that I'd like it as I love most music from the 80's.
So it's fair to say I had very high expectations! However I was totally shocked and stunned to be completely blown away by each and every track.
Rhydian has chosen lesser known tracks but which still epitomise this era of the 80's, he has kept their arrangement true to the original, yet in the words of Simon Cowell, completely made them his own. His versions of Tower of Strength (hard to beat the Mission in terms of the emotional feeling, but Rhydian has certainly done so) and The Promise are breathtaking.
So with fantastic song choices, a beautiful velvet voice (which incidently does sound totally different from the classical songs he sings) whilst maintaining original 80s musicality and the gorgeous, hardworking man that is Rhydian, this is a must buy for any Rhydian fan, child of the 80s, those loving the 80s revival and in fact anybody who says they love music.
