For anyone that knows of Rachel Goswell, I am sure they will tell you that she has one of those voices that sends shivers down your spine. She doesnt get to many lead vocals with her latest band Mojave 3 so the opportunity to hear a whole album of her voice was a great prospect.
This record is more raw and stripped down than Mojave 3 but she defintely enjoys taking lead and also excels at it. I always felt her voice compliments ballads more than anything so was pleased to hear that much of the album consisted of beautiful and melodic slow songs with a bit of blues & rock thrown in for good measure. Also some more unusual sounds from the flute and pipe gives this a touch of uniqueness.
This women is mega-talented and a voice never to tire of. This will never be big cause it will not get promoted so the world miss
es out. Pure quality !

Goswell has produced a stunning debut album that reeks of confidence and maturity. Her vocal phrasing dances through the mesmerising melodies in a totally original way. The only criticism I could level again this otherwise perfect piece of work is that the delicate singing is sometimes a little lost in the production. For me, a voice as fabulous as Goswell's deserves the 'less is more' treatment. When the production is reduced to simple elements, the achingly beautiful voice and hauntingly familiar melodies linger in your mind.
This is a highly recommended, and somewhat special album.

A really relaxing, mellow sound. I don't like categorisation, so use the phrase "easy listening" as a description, not as a style, since one seems to melt into it.
A lovely voice coupled with intelligent lyrics and at times surprisingly - for a small number of musicians - rich and sophisticated instrumentation; in a word, lush.
Note that as a reviewer, 4 stars is almost as good as it gets, since I reserve the 5 for the incomparably great (i.e. the likes of the Five Leaves Left, Pet Sounds, Wish You Were Here, Kind of Blue, Astral Weeks etc.). Buy it with confidence.
