'...stunning, compulsive reading' Sunday Times '...a proper grown-up novel for children' The Times

Product Description

Fiver could sense danger. Something terrible was going to happen to the warren - he felt sure of it. So did his brother Hazel, for Fiver's sixth sense was never wrong. They had to leave immediately, and they had to persuade the other rabbits to join them. And so begins a long and perilous journey of a small band of rabbits in search of a safe home. Fiver's vision finally leads them to Watership Down, but here they face their most difficult challenge of all..."Watership Down" is an epic journey, a stirring tale of adventure, courage and survival against the odds. First published in 1972, this beautiful edition celebrates its thirty-fifth anniversary.

What can you say about a work of such incredible depth? A true classic which will make you laugh, frighten you, make you cry and all shades in between. It also has bits which are very very funny. A brilliant epic novel which will, I hope stay with us for many generations to come. What a shame that the land at Sandleford in Newbury has been given the go ahead for building, just like in the story. Once these greenfield sites are gone they will be gone forever and eventually there will be nowhere left for Hazel, Fiver and their friends to run to. We will become an urban wasteland in this country and Fivers vision could indeed become true.
