An absolute must read 21 Sep 2002

After reading all of the four autobiographies (all four books read within five days - absolutely captivating), I am anxious to learn the rest of her life. I also come from a big family but have never had to go through any of the hardships that Helen and her brothers and sisters went through, drink and ciggies were the last thing on my mum and dad's mind. How anyone could actually live a life like Helen did and still come out smiling in the end is beyond me. Full credit to Helen and her wonderful story telling. Eagerly awaiting the after war years and life in Canada (if there is ever going to be one - please Helen).

Helen Forrester's autobiography books should be used in school history lessons. They are so well written. You feel a sense of anger especially when you read about Helen's battles with her family for her right for an education and to go to work, things that we all take for granted. I would love to hear Helen's tale of how she got on after the war and how she came to emigrate to Canada.

The Helen Forrester biographys are excellent, they show what life was like then. So hard and miserable i wonder how people would cope with conditions like that today in the developed worlds,especially without all the help we get today.
