5.0 out of 5 stars The Robbie Fowler of indie music., 30 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Shack are a Liverpool band who, due to one problem or another (drug addiction, studio fires, misplaced tapes)never achieved the success they deserved, when in truth they had tunes to challenge the likes of Oasis and the Stone Roses. This is a fine album of melodic, soulful folk-rock melding age old but well worn influences such as The Beatles, Love, Simon and Garfunkel, and even some punk sounds. It's every bit as good as 'Definitely Maybe' or other celebrated '90s albums, and worth buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can i be the ''sergeant major'' too?, 8 Jan 2004
Shacks''Waterpistol'' is the kind of solid, dependable, great album like the Stone Roses and the La's debuts that can withstand repeated plays and entice the listener into further discovery.

As every great album should be, the melodies are sublime, the lyrics don't make any reasonable sense (a good thing!)and after only one or two playbacks, each track is embedded in your nozzle for good!

Buy this album for ''Sergeant Major'' and ''Dragonfly'' alone! Instruct all your friends to part with their dough for a highly enjoyable psychedelic rock n' roll 40 odd minutes or so.

5.0 out of 5 stars music of beauty, hope, sorrow and gritty real life...., 11 Feb 2005
By A Customer
as you can see from the other reviews, this album is a genuine lost classic... 12 gorgeous and gritty songs penned by ex Pale Fountains songsmith Michael Head, with augmentation from his guitarist brother John and future Cast bassist Pete 'Huxley Pig' Wilkinson...

the theme of the songs take in the gritty liverpudlian streets, a ray of whisky fuelled light amongst the bleakness of the late 80s/early 90s (when this LP was written and recorded, despite its 1995 release date)...

worth purchasing for the majestic ''undecided'' alone... influential, inspirational... and under-rated...
