Product Description

British author James Delingpole tells the shocking story of how an unholy mix of junk science, green hype, corporate greed and political opportunism led to the biggest - and most expensive - outbreak of mass hysteria in history.

In Watermelons, Delingpole explains the Climategate scandal, the cast of characters involved, their motives and methods. He delves into the background of the organizations and individuals who have sought to push global warming to the top of the political agenda, showing that beneath their cloak of green lurks a heart of red.

Watermelons shows how the scientific method has been sacrificed on the altar of climate alarmism. Delingpole mocks the green movement's pathetic record of apocalyptic predictions, from the "population bomb" to global cooling, which failed to materialize. He reveals the fundamental misanthropy of green ideology, "rooted in hatred of the human species, hell bent on destroying almost everything man has achieved".

Delingpole gives a refreshing voice to widespread public skepticism over global warming, emphasising that the "crisis" has been engineered by people seeking to control our lives by imposing new taxes and regulations. "Your taxes will be raised, your liberties curtailed and your money squandered to deal with this 'crisis'", he writes.

At its very roots, argues Delingpole, climate change is an ideological battle, not a scientific one. Green on the outside, red on the inside, the liberty-loathing, humanity-hating "watermelons" of the modern environmental movement do not want to save the world. They want to rule it.

Delingpole is the bestselling British writer who helped expose the Climategate scandal in his Daily Telegraph blog. He also writes a column for The Spectator . His other books include 365 Ways to Drive a Liberal Crazy (Regnery, 2010) and Welcome to Obamaland (Regnery, 2009).

5.0 out of 5 stars Global Warming Must-Read 22 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a must-read for anybody who wants to know more about the issue of global warming. Most Western governments are already spending vast and increasing amounts, funded by taxation, to minimise carbon dioxide emissions. Yet not a single scientist has ever managed to prove that these emissions are any cause for alarm. How has it then come about that governments have taken the position that extreme measures which are likely to impoverish us all are necessary for our very survival?

This book addresses this situation with great cogency and historical perspective. It describes how a theory has been initially investigated and then hijacked by politically motivated groups to encourage a panic reaction by politicians. Data have been manipulated, sometimes falsified and always presented with varying degrees of amplification to achieve the desired response.

Delingpole's compelling account traces the actions of the key players in this drama from its origins to the present and provides a lucid analysis of the science, consequences and the motives of the players in what is likely to become known as the greatest single folly ever perpetrated by mankind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tells it like it is. 9 Aug 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Delingpole's Telegraph blog is always a delight to read, as he is one of a vanishingly small number of writers in the mainstream media who actually have the balls to tell you the truth. He is often accused of ridiculing the lunatics from the left, but this is not true; all he does is hold up a mirror and allow them to ridicule themselves with everything they say and do.

"Watermelons" is an excellent book. Delingpole tells you everything you need to know about the global warming scam. It's not a book for "sceptics" or "deniers", it's a book for realists who want the truth about the biggest criminal fraud ever perpetrated on the peoples of the free world.

Delingpole shows how a theory about the climate was seized upon by politicians as a tool to destroy the miners and make nuclear power acceptable. Decades later, it's *still* just a theory - yet politicians in the developed world are actively conspiring to destroy their respective economies on the basis of this theory in order to "save the planet".

Truly, the lunatics are running the asylum.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read 16 Aug 2011

Format:Kindle Edition
If you like James' blog you'll love this.

We all know 'the science' has become politicised and corrupted by those seeking increased taxes & subsidies and Big Brother controls over our life and liberty. As a result - books on global warming often make depressing reading: Alarmist books because they're full of idiotic ideologically motivated doom-mongering. Sceptical books that expose irrational alarmism, because they make you despair for our future if governed by the eco-doom cultists.

James manages to lighten this otherwise depressing topic with his unique humour and wit. We need more of this. Highly recommended.

"e;
no one in the entire history of climate science has ever managed to prove that there is a connection between man-made carbon emissions and dangerous climate change. Not one scientist. Ever. "e;

What “the science” has shown is that while levels of man-made CO2 have continued to rise as industrial output around the world has increased, global temperatures have not. The world stopped warming in 1998. This is important. What it means, essentially, is that the theory claiming that catastrophic and unprecedented global warming is linked with man-made CO2 has been (in science-speak) “falsified”. "e;

The people who tell you that AGW is a near-certainty are a bunch of liars, cheats and frauds. Your taxes will be raised, your liberties curtailed, and your money squandered to deal with a “crisis” so exceedingly unlikely and so poorly supported by real world data or objective science that it might just as well not exist. "e;
