Please note that the Watermelon man album shown on the download page is the original album and not the live album from 1992 and there are no bonus tracks from the later live album.

The physical CD advertised here is a compilation of 10 live tracks, which all also appear on the 12-track album Brazilian Sunset. It's not bad as a curio, but don't get it confused with Santamaria's seminal mid-60s latin jazz classic 'Watermelon Man' album.

SWINGERS WILL DIG IT! 30 Jan. 2008
By whatchamacallit - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
WATERMELON MAN IS THE GREATEST DANCE RECORD OF ALL TIME!

PAY NO MIND TO THE MUSICOLOGY MAJORS REVIEW,
HE IS ONE OF THOSE JAZZ GEAR-HEAD TYPES,
AND WOULD NOT KNOW A SWINGIN BEAT IF IT BIT
HIM IN THE BEHIND! BUT IF YOU LIKE MUSIC
THAT MOVES YOUR FEET, AND LIKE TO GET ALL CRAZY
ON THE DANCE FLOOR, THAN YOU ARE AT THE RIGHT PLACE,
TO LAUNCH INTO SPACE, FROM THE FIRST TRACK
TO THE LAST, AND ALL POINTS IN BETWEEN,
THIS CD IS THE MOST!

Good for those of you who like the Skatalites 23 Nov. 2009

The Skatalites covered nearly every song on this CD. It's fantastic to hear the originals. Great material and performances.

A Must Have 25 Aug. 2012
By Blatt - Published on Amazon.com
This album is one of the best ever. I still enjoy it as much as the day I got it in the 60's. I'm constantly looking for a CD to be released. My favorite cut... Just Say Good-bye......followed by Summertime

Bonus tracks save this album 27 Dec. 2005
By Aluminium Horse - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Of the original tracks on this album, the title track is the only one worth listening to; the rest are lackluster arrangements with the same simplistic beat that seem to be aimed at a mainstream audience, and not Afro-Latin aficionados. I would give this album two stars, but the six bonus tracks are so good, they make this disc worth the $18 I paid for it. These six tracks have the authentic Afro-Latin sound that put New Yorican bands on the map. So go ahead and buy it, skip to track 13, and press play.

used vinyl record 16 Mar. 2010

this was a used record from an aggregate Amazon seller, so it's not a 'stocked' product. anyway, the music is good, and the cover great.
