Product Description

The autumn term episodes of the eighth season of the BBC drama set in a failing inner city comprehensive. Waterloo Road's Head Teacher Michael Byrne (Alec Newman) continues to preside over the school and the variety of problems it faces. In this series a number of new teachers including Audrey McFall (Georgie Glen) and the alcoholic Christine Mulgrew (Laurie Brett) join the cast and bring their virtues and vices to the education of Waterloo's pupils.

Product Description

It's a whole new world for Waterloo Road as many of the teachers and some of the pupils move to a new academy school in Greenock, Scotland, sponsored by successful businesswoman Lorraine Donnegan. Grantly and Maggie, soon to be married, are house parents to the kids who have come up from the old school, while Head Teacher Michael Byrne, Sian, Tom, Janeece and Chalky immerse themselves in the new school, pupils both new and old and all the challenges they bring with them. New teachers include the straitlaced Audrey McFall, and Christine Mulgrew, a semifunctioning alcoholic who wreaks havoc in the lives of all around her. New pupils include Christine's son and primary buffer Conor, who is constantly saved from veering off-track by new girl Imogen. However, even she is fated to fall victim to the dysfunctional Mulgrew mother/son relationship. With Head Teacher Michael having to face the ghosts of his past, young Scout suffering relentless bullying from new girl Rhiannon, and Tariq facing an uncertain future both physically and emotionally, a new look Waterloo Road gets off to a fiery start, building to a fiery and explosive finish. Special Features: • Behind the Scenes Feature • In the Lab with Jaye and Jason • In the Gym with Kaya & Kirstie • Home from Home with Grantly Budgen • Subtitles

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Viewing 28 Aug 2013
I have no issue with the move to Scotland - every show needs a change and this is exactly what Waterloo Road needed. The cast are just as good as the series 5 cast (Eva Pope, Tom Chambers, Angela Griffin, Will Ash, Elizabeth Berrington, Denise Welch - To name but a few) - and so are the characters. The Story's are not quite as interesting but make good viewing all the same. My only trouble is that some of the pre-titles scenes have been cut off - for example the first scene of episode 1 where Tariq wakes up from his dream about the crash and is revealed to be in a wheelchair - I thought this was an important scene for that episode - and some of the music has been changed too but this is normal for Waterloo Road Dvd's. The 'previously' and 'Next Time' previews at the beginning and end of each episode have been cut off (also normal for WR Dvd's), but even so it makes great viewing with a great and dramatic ending...Four Star!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Takes Time To Get Into It! 4 Dec 2013

I did't watch any of series 8 on TV....well that's a lie, I watched ep 1 and 2 then lost interest. But I have been re-watching series 1-7 on DVD these last few weeks and thought I would give it a go.

Watching disk 1, not very impressed. Don't get me wrong, good story-lines etc, I think as it was all new it didn't really feel like the Waterloo Road I new & loved.

But towards the back-end of disk 2 I stated to really get into it and by disk 3 I was loving it again. Not as much as the old Waterloo Road. But Tom, Grantly, Josh, Chalky etc made me stick with it and pleased they did. As for the new lot. Can't say I have any faves yet, apart from Kevin, Love him!

Already ordered the next term so I think it's safe to say I am getting into it again :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving onwards and upwards 6 Feb 2013
I dipped in and out of what I now consider the 'old' Waterloo Road and have found this new series based in Scotland
a lot fresher and grittier...maybe that's just the Scottish accents and the bleak weather, but the show feels like its trying to tackle 'real' issues. I'm not a massive fan of the headteacher, but the ensemble cast of teachers in this new series is on a par with the early years of Eva Pope and crew.
