In 1847 it was decided to do a diorama of the battle, and Major-General Sitborne contacted various survivors to find out what had happened.
While there is now somedispute as to how accurate this interpretation is, these letter became the basis of the accounts of the battle.
In total 180 letters are published, which covers the main details of the battle, the rest are available in the British Library.
Waterloo is the first battle to be fought whee the participants, down to private level, where articulate and literate.
It is worth reading for the details of the battle first hand.
