When an English author who calls the island his second home decides he needs a wife, he determines to look among the village women whom he admires. Will he succeed? Or succumb to the talents of the women expert in getting their own way – often without appearing to.

More About the Author

My ambitions are simple. I'm a storyteller. I want to write books that people will enjoy so much they will look out for the next one with my name on the cover. Although reviews are important, it is the opinion of readers that matters most to me.
With seven books in the DI MIKE NASH series published, I have decided to set aside the crime books for the time being in order to focus my attention on a long overdue project that is close to my heart.
Under my pen name WILLIAM GORDON I have recently released WATERING THE OLIVES, a collection of light-hearted stories, and THE LAST RESORT, both set on a fictional Greek island. However, the principal reason for the change of direction is the BYLAND CRESCENT series, a five-volume family saga that will span the period from late Victorian times until the present day, with each book centred around a new generation of the families.
The series will take the reader to such diverse locations as West and North Yorkshire, Australia, Europe and America. The first book, REQUIEM, is available in paperback and both REQUIEM and book two,RENAISSANCE are now available to download on KINDLE. The remaining titles in this series, will follow in due course.
That doesn't mean that I've given up my life of crime. There will be more Mike Nash stories on the way soon. Watch this space!

5.0 out of 5 stars When a writer writes about Greece ........ 3 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are quite a few of us who live in Greece and try to write. Then there are the rare breed of writers who just happen to write about Greece, and William Gorden is amongst the latter group. Watering the Olives may be short stories and I usually prefer longer offerings, but such was his novel way of introducing each piece that it seemed like one continual story. Very enjoyable, beautifully written and fun to read. Thank you. Josephine Kelly, author 'From Lindos with Love'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read 13 May 2013

Although I felt it was a bit slow starting it is a great collection of short stories. I almost felt I was in Greece with the main character Vassili. Yes I did enjoy it very much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully written ideal light reading 17 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Watering the Olives is a wonderfully written collection of short stories about traditional life on a small Greek island. The tales are humorously told by a fictional English writer called Vassili, who lives within the heart of a small village community on the island. The descriptions of the places and the way of life are so graphic that I was right there with Vassili as I read. Also, having lived on the Aegean coast myself, I was very impressed with the accuracy of the descriptions.

From stories that include love, jealously, scheming, matchmaking and, of course, tending olives, Watering the Olives consists of a complete tale in each chapter. So it makes for light, easy reading.

Warning: reading these stories will probably make you want to book your next holiday very soon after.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cornucopia of Greek Women 2 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although these short stories are fiction, they have to be based on true experiences! They read as chapters in one story, all set in or near a mythical Greek village and each has a tale to tell about Greek people, but primarily about Greek village women - their guiles, strengths, (rarely their weaknesses) and womanly ways. Behind all is another character - the storyteller. Thanks Bill Kitson/William Gordon. A great read.

Good story lines and writing style. Held my interest throughout, hard to stop reading and do other things! Great to think life could have been/ was like that for one if my favourite holiday countries. Also recommend the next book, different style, which I read straight after.

I really enjoyed this book. Whilst funny in places it also showed the joys of travelling around Italy. Made me want to go on holiday again.

Enjoyed these stories with the theme of strong women though a little gory at times! Loved the village, would liked a map of the island to help my imagination.

A very accurate description of life with the Greeks. An enjoyable read for when you just want to be somewhere else than under the dull English sky.
