Product Description

Readers are shown how to master all the practical aspects of watercolour painting - including laying different types of washes and using brushes and other painting equipment to best effect. They are given a full understanding of how colours work with a practical guide to mixing paints and using colours successfully. Amateur painters are instructed in the basic drawing skills that are the key to good watercolours and, when it comes to planning pictures, this book includes all the compositional tricks of the trade. Finally there is a useful reference section on equipment and materials - what you need and when to use them. Throughout the book there are clear demonstrations of the techniques to ensure watercolour success, plus useful tips from the Watercolour Challenge experts and straightforward exercises showing how to capture the most popular subjects in paint. The book also includes 12 specially devised step-by-step projects, which show the reader how to put the techniques they have learned into practice.

For some reason my previous review was tagged "A Kids' review" Having selected the "Are you over 13" ...I cannot understand how this occurred ?
I am submitting my review again ...I sincerely wish I was a kid again...sadly ...I am at the other end of the scale.....It doesn't alter the fact that the "Watercolour Challenge Practical Painting Course " is a really great book though ......

This book is one of the best I have come across !
Due to the fact that skill levels vary so widely...I found this book answered every single query that I could have encountered as a newcomer to the watercolour medium !
It filled every possible gap in my knowledge of basic equipment selection....the various techniques in colour mixing and application are covered in a clear and well laid out manner.
I had used my local library for many of my early forays into "acquiring the basics"...and from all the many and varied publications available....this book has been my "best friend"
It is the most comprehensive publication that I have discovered in my ever increasing library of" tips and technique" books that have been purchased since my interest in watercolours had awakened.
Naturally , as our skills develop..our needs change and we move along the "learning curve" to more ambitious projects..but this book is the "solid foundation" on which to build our skills and explore this wonderful media further. Thanks to all the other reviewers of this excellent book for pointing me in the right direction !

This is a great book as it also covers sketching an essential area of being able to take watercolour painting to another level, I'm forever trying to get this point across to my students as they don't always see (or want to see) the vital connection. The examples in this book will help me as it shows quick rough sketches done on location and more detailed examples for images from reference or still-life compositions. I really want them to do more practice in-between lessons as they will notice the difference. First saw this book in the classroom reference at a prison and decided to purchase a copy for my own practice and teaching purposes... make sure you get this exact one as there are others with a similar name from the channel 4 series and they are really of no use.
