About the Author

Phoenix artist Julie Gilbert Pollard paints in oils and watercolors in a fluid, painterly manner. Her painting style, while representational, is colored with her own personal concept of reality and a unique approach to color and light. She has taught classes since 1985, and currently teaches at the Scottsdale Artists’ School, Shemer Art Center and Cynthia’s Art Asylum in the greater Phoenix area, as well as the Highland Valley Studios in California, Dillman’s Creative Arts Foundation in Wisconsin and La Romita School of Art in Umbria, Italy.

I was so excited to get this book and decided to download it to my PC.

That was my second mistake.

I think with a book like this you need the hard copy. I can look at the pictures and read the text OK but it just didn't feel the same as looking at a real book (I am an avid kindle fan and have been for several years now), and I have not found any inspiration to work from the book at all.

My first mistake was being seduced by the beautiful images into buying this book full stop. I loved the colours and how JGP has interpreted her versions of the scenes she recreates, but to call it 'Watercolor Unleashed' is misleading when the techniques in the book rely heavily on acrylic painting. I have nothing against combining media, but I think it should be described as a water media or mixed media book.

Borrow this book if you can because the paintings are lovely, but only intend to use it as a reference book if you want to learn mixed media techniques and buy the paper book if you are going to buy it at all, is my advice.

To sum up, disappointing although pretty, and a complete waste of money on Kindle format

Unlike many art books, where you get a third of the book wasted on materials, the author gets straight into her painting techniques. The book is very informative and the pictures and sketches are crystal clear.
One of the best art books I have found.

This is a really good instructional book. If you long to paint more loosely, this is the book for you.
Her choice of colours is superb and her style, unique. Together with the DVD this is like going to a really brilliant workshop.

Was looking for something different as learning to paint in watercolour and wanted to move on to the next stage - really fantastic book with fresh ideas - all so colourful and with really good guidelines on how to achieve the examples in the book
