5.0 out of 5 stars A journey through myth, 28 May 2001
By A Customer
First impressions: Wow, I read this book in two days, ploughed my way through it. I finally found something to quicken my jaded soul. From the sumptous descriptions of the palace, to the realistic depictions of life among the clans where god worship is a fact of life and covers all facets of existance. The societies that reach out and touch you with their realism. Characters who are heroes and yet act as *people* would. In all excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars A rare imagination, 29 Sep 2004
By Tom (London) - See all my reviews
In a genre of fairly stale themes, you tend to either get the great epic authors, the authors with fresh ideas and great imagination whether they execute that well or not, and lots of rubbish. Greg Keyes fits the second category perfectly with men such as James Stoddard - overall the two books are a little two-diemsional for my tastes in the way Monument is, but the ideas are certainly there and it's an extremely worthwhile read. Fantasy readers should investigate this because it's a refreshing read after the formulaic rubbish that tends to populate the shelves, and as an introduction to the author because he's now moved on to the larger scale epic fantasy books.
