3.0 out of 5 stars Good game but quite slow 10 Sep 2014

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I’ve always loved theme park simulation games and loved the idea of a water park simulation game. The way you get and install this game is slightly different to normal games in that you get a game case however inside you get a card with details of how to download the game. It didn’t take me very long to do this and it was quite simple to download and install.

The download comes with a PDF file of the instructions, however it doesn’t really cover much, I ended up searching online when I had problems or wasn’t sure on something due to this.

There are two ways you can play the game, either via quest mode where you complete tasks and reach targets, or freeplay where you can do whatever you want but items are limited until you unlock them in the quest mode. There are 4 quest modes; tutorial, bronze, silver and gold and you have to complete them in that level.

When I started playing I was really disappointed in the speed as the people walking round were going so slow and it took forever to complete tasks. I looked in the options and there were no speed options and I also looked in the instruction booklet and found nothing either and thought it must have been the normal speed. After getting frustrated I looked online and a number of people said they had the same problem and it could be fixed by reducing the image quality i.e. by changing the screen resolution, so I changed this to 800 option and restarted the game (you have to restart the game for this to take effect.) This made the people walk at a normal speed however it did affect the text meaning it was really hard to read however this was less irritating that the people walking really slow.

1.0 out of 5 stars An unfortunate waste of time 1 Oct 2014

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I was looking forward to trying this, as I used to play games such as Theme Park and Theme Hospital, way back when (around 15 years ago!) and always enjoyed them. However, this game was sadly a huge let down.

Things started off okay - I entered the download code into the website, received an email with the download link, and downloaded the set up program, which took around two minutes. It then took another two minutes to install. After that, a link appeared to a fairly basic manual which explained the aims of the game and the controls. I then opened the game, and this is where things began to go wrong.

You are supposed to start with the tutorial, so I selected that. It took a long time to load, sticking at places such as "50%... loading scenery" and so on. Even once it got to 100%, it then took another couple of minutes to open. Once it had opened, I tried to start building restrooms and changing rooms as instructed. However, no matter how many times I clicked on the items, I could not select them and could not build anything. On one attempt I managed to make a small area of cobblestones on the ground, but that was it; I couldn't build on top of them. I couldn't make any progress. Even when I tried to exit the game, I had to click on the 'leave game' button around five times before it registered I wanted to leave.

This might be okay if you can get it to work, though the graphics look very basic and the concept doesn't appear to have changed or improved since the games I played 15 years ago. But seeing as I can't even build the very first item, I can't comment on further game play. For me it was just incredibly slow, unresponsive and unmanageable. My computer has more than a high enough spec to handle the game so I don't know what the problem is, but I definitely don't recommend this.

2.0 out of 5 stars WaterPark Tycoon 2 Sep 2014

I used to be an avid fan of the building sims, from the very (very) early days of Sim City. I've tried many of them throughout the years; the ranging Sim City series, The Sims, Theme Hospital, Theme Park... you get the idea.

With the evolution in computing, anything being released now needs to being something decent to the genre; even more so for younger players that are only used to seamless games and high-end graphics (Minecraft aside).

WaterPark Tycoon, is, to be quite frank, terrible.

I give it two stars as it's easy to install, and doesn't seem buggy. That's where it ends.

The navigation buttons are tiny, and don't have hover tooltips to give you guidance on what lays within - not even in the tutorial mode, which is oddly nested within the dubiously named "quests" section. The map is flat and uninteresting; the textures are quite severely pixelated and there are no options within the game to increase the quality. Whatsoever.

The gameplay itself is limited and slow. You cannot switch easily between objects selected - you have to deselect something before you can select a new object to construct. Applying buildings and textures is also not consistent. For example, when you put down sand, you can go over this with the cobble paving type if you change your mind. The same is not true the other way round - you have to remove the cobbles, then put down sand. Odd.

NPCs walk around incredibly slowly - as if walking through water constantly, or potentially stoned. You can't really zoom in to anything. You can't zoom out either, to get a better overview of your park.

I also thought I would be able to make free-flowing slides in this, like you could make coasters in Rollercoaster Tycoon.
