I've always found that visual music media always struggles to really bring any atmosphere to my living room when viewing. It just never really works to me and I end up feeling that I may as well just have bought the audio. One exception was Metallica's S&M Metallica - S and M [DVD] [1999] [Region 1] [NTSC] because that really was a visual experience (metal meets an orchestra) that worked.

I won't mix my words and come straight out with I think that EV is the greatest male singer of this genre around. Massive debate I know but that's my opnion. He's at his best on a stool, with a mic and that's it. On Water on the road, we have EV on a stool with a selection of stringed instruments and a harmonica whiping through his catalogue of mainly acoustic tracks that he's built up recently. It's all taking place on what looks like a high school stage! The way that it's shot does make you question if there's a crowd or not and sometimes there isn't (the camera shot shows just an empty hall). Water on the road, isn't just a simple live concert slapped onto a disc, it's broken up with a few snippets of Eddie doing other stuff away from perfoming.

The Blu-Ray quality is excellent and we are given a choice of DTS-HD 5.1 or a straight uncompressed stereo. What I can't figure out is why there are another 2 excellent tracks from the performance as extra's. Why not just have them in the main feature??? It would have been nice to have had an audio copy for free too.

If you want to see a genius at work, purchase Water on the road, sit back and admire. I don't think he's quite at his best vocally (because he's not just singing) but he's still awesome.

A simple premise, just Eddie Vedder, his ukuleles, guitars, a few friends, and you have one hell of a show.
The set list is great, a selection of PJ, solo material and a fair few covers, the highlight for me is Society with Liam Finn, but the rest of the performance is equally as good.
There's a very melancholy feel to the concert but its quite uplifting at the same time. Its great to see how Eddie has progressed and how his music has changed with age, and I for one am enjoying the progression.

There's not much in the way of extra's, its a simply a concert on bluray, and it benefits from this simplicity.
I just wish I could have been in the crowd!

Very interesting DVD, great songs, some of which never published before. A must, especially if you're an Eddie Vedder fan.

For Vedder, this is really mellow compared to the Pearl Jam stuff he's done. There appears to be many influences in this dvd which Vedder talks about. He seemed to enjoy doing this and it was nice to see the man behind the music. Great dvd.

His voice is still brilliant 20 years on. No matter what type of song, loud or soft, he somehow manages to pull it off. Plus he's very funny. Buy this dvd -if you like Pearl Jam or great voices like Jim Morrison you'll love this.

Been a Pearl Jam fan since their begining and anything that lead singer Eddie vedder does solo is always worth a listen. What you get here is Eddie at is raw best, kind of intimate but still gets your adrenaline pupping with his powerful voice. He also shows the funny side with stories to the lucky crowd. This is a must for any PJ fan and anyone who likes someone singing with pure passion and effort.Water On The Road [DVD] [2011]

I bought this Bluray because I've been a fan of Pearl Jam for many years, and I loved Eddie Vedder's movie soundtrack "Into the wild" (one of my favorite albums). I recently bought his latest album "Ukulele Songs", that's a great album too. But the Water on the road movie/concert was superb. To see EV live, performing some of my favorite songs, was mindblowing. And he's a funny man too. What a voice, what a voice... Propably one of the best, if not THE best male vocal on planet Earth. If you love music, buy this! You won't be disappointed.
