I bought this book because I was having some `difficulties' with a person at work, and it was recommended to me by a friend who had recently read it.
I have to say I was sceptical that a book could solve my problems, particularly knowing how difficult this person was. However, chapter by chapter, light bulbs kept going on in my head as I recognised some of the tricks and underhand ways of communicating that this person was using with me and my colleagues - it was like I was discovering his secrets of persuasion and manipulation on every page!!!!!
This book is such a revelation, well it certainly was for me, and I have already shared some of its contents with my work pals.
The best thing about this book is that the author gives lots of tricks and what he calls `counter-tactics' which means I've been able to push back in a really effective way. It's also great fun to be able to play someone at their own game, and just understanding how someone has up until now manipulated you or situations is half the battle. OK not every tactic will work every time, but I've been amazed at how it's shifted the power balance back in my favour, and I feel so much more in control.
The author even signed the book before sending it (he asked first if I wanted it signed) which was a really nice gesture.
Thank you Jon, you've written a gem here, and it's helped me no end - in fact I'm going to read it through again as I'm sure in my page turning enthusiasm there will be other things in there that I will have missed first time around.
