Most Helpful Customer Reviews

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Jonathan Rubinstein on 27 Feb. 2011
Format: Paperback
The greatest satire written on the Great Game, the best spy novel ever, it is not closely approached to this day. Too literate any longer for those educated after 1940. During WW2 the OSS used this novel as a training manual, deceived by its having been banned under the Official Secrets Act by a government that was embarrassed by its contents. They did understand it was a very serious send up of activities that were extremely costly and largely irrelevant to the conduct of war.
