Product Description

Product Description

Travis (Corey Haim) and his mother Nora (Barbara Williams) find and befriend a super-intelligent dog and later discover that it was produced through genetic manipulation in a top secret government research laboratory. Trouble is, the dog is being hunted down by another genetically-modified creature and, far from being man's best friend, this one has been bred to be the ultimate killing machine.

From the Back Cover

In the dead of night, an intense explosion decimates a top secret government laboratory where genetically altered life forms have been developed. Two creatures are telepathically linked to escape the inferno and flee into the nearby forest. One is an extraordinary dog with astonishing intelligence, trained to infiltrate behind enemy lines. The other, known as the OXCOM, is a hybrid creature designed to be the perfect killing machine. The oxcom has been genetically programmed to seek and destroy the dog and any human in it's path. Now they're on the loose in a peaceful farming community.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings... 16 Jan 2011
By DRGD
Format:DVD
I must start by saying Watchers by Dean Koontz is one of my favourite books of all time. I have read it through at least 8 times and it gets better with every read. This film is very loosely based on the concept of the book however it takes a completely different path and so its not fair to compare the movie to the book. So judging the movie on its own merits, is it any good? To be fair this is a typical 80's movie, the acting is poor, the script is poor and the special effects aren't up to much. That said I did find myself enjoying the film. I would say its worth a look if you have nothing better to do - but leave your high expectations at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars If your gonna buy this movie, but THIS DVD! 24 Sep 2007
By dMk
Format:DVD
If you've seen the Region 1 US Release of Watchers, you'd know the picture quality is worse than a VHS-Rip. The Region 1 release is in Full Screen, 2.0 Soundtrack and no extra special features, except for Watchers II.

The European release on the other hand has a pristine Widescreen 16:9 Picture quality. It looks perfect. It also has a remastered 5.1 DD Soundtrack, that sounds amazing.

Plus it has a Trailer and cast and crew bios.

The Region 2 DVD of watchers, from any country - UK, Poland, Germany, etc. - Is amazing.

The movie on the other hand isn't great, but it's entertaining and don't expect the novel - it's nothing like the book.

But it's Corny fun. And watching it with this DVD, is a good scary and fun experience.

DON'T Buy the Region 1 DVD. Even though the Region 1 DVD has Watchers II as a special feature, the quality is bloody awful.

I compared both DVDs, taking snapshots. Want the comparison? Email me.

5.0 out of 5 stars though I do enjoy this title 17 July 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
The rating is more for the DVD transfer than the film itself, though I do enjoy this title. Michael Ironside really steals the show, and the monster is pretty cool too. It's like if the thing from the crate in Creepshow got up and started running around. Corey Haim fans will get their Haim's worth. Based on a Dean Koontz novel I never read. Not sure why Dean Koonts needed to write it. It's a total B movie. Roger Corman was involved at some point during the three films. Sequel gets Beastmaster Singer to talk to animals again and part 3 is the most direct rip off of Predator ever made! First one is still the best because of Michael Ironside.

1.0 out of 5 stars dont watch, read instead 14 April 2014
Format:DVD
Please bypass this movie at all costs, its a travesty of what still remains Dean Koontz, s best ever book.
The film is flat.linear and a typical run of the mill horror.
The book has great character, depth and feeling.
I will give no spoilers away, but please please just get the book, you will be very much rewarded.
Dean has gone off the boil a bit in recent years with some average books which is a shame as he has a great gift for language, just read Watchers and From The Corner Of His Eye, another truly outstanding novel, and see what I mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Deeds 24 Jun 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Now this is a great story that will keep you intrigued with it, No body is safe not even from the government. They did experiments and of course one experiment escapes, so than they let out the other to find and destroy a harmless highly intelligent dog that gets taken in by a boy who believes that its a stray, only for a while that is. Now that is it for the hints and clues as there is more to the story that I didn't mention as not to spoil it for you. Plenty of suspense gathering here and there that will keep you hanging on the chair so not to miss anything, I rated this an B grade plus for the ideas that developed in the movie with fabulous twist and turns so for a good night of full on entertainment from the classic section collect your popcorn sit and relax and enjoy.
