Product Description

A short chapter book for children aged 6-9.
Approx 1,550 words and 6 chapters.

The man who looked after the weather said to his son, “Tom, it’s time you learnt how to do my job. I’m going into town tomorrow and I want you to look after the weather huts.”
“Yes, Father, I can do that,” Tom said with a smile.
So the next morning Tom waved bye to his Father as he got into his van.
His father called out, “Watch out for the bears!”
“Watch out for the what?” Tom called back.
“The bears that live in the forest!” his father shouted.
Tom shook his head.
Bears that lived in the forest!
He’d never seen any bears.
What was his father talking about?

Tom soon finds out ...

More About the Author

I have always loved writing and used to create my own books when I was younger. My favourite book was The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton as I liked the idea of there being a different magical land at the top of the tree every day. Although I constantly looked for such a tree I never found one.
As I grew up I didn't know what kind of writing I wanted to do and so I tried all kinds of genres. When I had my own daughters I used to read picture books every day to them and I loved that quiet time when it was just me and them and the magical world that we could escape into. That's when I knew I wanted to write picture books.
I have had six picture books published to date - The Teddy Bear Scare, Happy Birthday Santa, The Smallest Hero,You Can't Eat A Princess, You Can't Scare A Princess and the Children's History of Leeds. I like to create characters that are a little bit different to what is expected.
I have also self published many children's ebooks - you can find them on my Amazon Author page.
I love reading all sorts of books, I find that children's books are far more fun than grown up ones. My favourite author is Terry Pratchett, he has created the most wonderful world in his Discworld books.
I've had lots of jobs including looking at storm damaged roofs, fitting shoes on wriggling toddlers and trying to sell car insurance to people who were just not interested. I can honestly say that writing is the best job in the world and I love doing it.

My four year old daughter loves this book so much I have to read it 3 times every night before she goes to bed. its well written and funny and it makes children think about the world around them. The bears seem to be bit naughty but really they just want to have fun. My daughter loved it, giggled at what they got up to and went to bed with a smile on her face. According to my daughter its the best story ever!!!

Just finished reading this to my 2yr old. I would like to say that we both thoroughly enjoyed this imaginative story. Found myself giggling at the granny and daddy bears. My little one was repeating there conversations between the bears and Tom. The only thing that it was missing was some illustration, he would have really loved that. Will definitely be looking at the rest of the collection :)

A cute little story about the son of the Weather Man who keep all the different weather conditions, fog, cloud, rainbow, locked in separate huts. Tom is left in charge one day but warned to watch out for the bears. He isn't too sure why, but he soon finds out, as they proceed to get into the 'weather huts' and let the weather out.
To be honest the story didn't make too much sense to me but, having said that, if it had been aimed at younger children and with ample colourful illustrations, similar to the cover, I think it would have worked much better. I could imagine lovely illustrations of bears sliding down rainbows and wearing cloud vests! As text only and aimed at 6 years plus it didn't work quite so well for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging Without Excitement 12 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There is a hint of something dramatic in the title ‘Watch Out For Bears’, but it is a sweet and charming children’s book that makes a good bedtime read. It is short enough to read in one go, and it is the sort of story young children like to hear over and over - and read for themselves as they recognise the wording. However for some it may not be exciting enough - the bears are too nice! Also the book screams out for illustrations, even though the cover picture is delightful. A 4-star rating seems fair.
