Book Description

11 Oct 2011
Set against a backdrop of menial employment, escape into alcohol and an unflinching belief that life has the potential to offer so much more, Wasted in Love explores the tragedy and humour that exists in the everyday lives we lead. Whether they are starting out in life or having a cold moment of realisation, Allan Wilson s poignant vignettes are powerful, unflinching in their honesty and full of dark humour. We see the real world of love; couples fight, break-up, make-up and fall in and out of love. Lies, suspicion and betrayal haunt them. But when they come together in love, can they escape and rise above their problems? Wasted in Love explodes onto the page with vivid, heartbreaking stories and stunning prose. This much anticipated and praised collection is a brave exploration of the human condition from one of the UK s most exciting writers.

Product Description

Review

This book is tough and tender Dirty Realism that leaves no stone unturned in its search for the truth. Using lean, economical prose Wilson lays bare the hearts and minds of ordinary human beings, with enough love, concern and humour to prevent mere cynicism. Allan Wilson is a thrilling young voice, and might just represent the future of Scottish fiction. --Alan Bissett

Quite frankly, it s a brilliant book, well crafted, authentic and necessary. --The Skinny

He reads like the real thing…a terrific debut anthology. --Tom Leonard

For those who want to have a book to pick up and put down, this is a great collection of stories. Be prepared to laugh, be shocked and become engrossed in the emotions of life and love. This writer wants to challenge you beyond the surface of every day situations. What a journey I recommend to all

The short stories are definitely lovely reads. There are some I enjoyed more than others but that's personal taste. I'd recommend to anyone who likes a quick and quiet read over coffee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superlative 1 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Bought after I saw it nominated for an award. This is a compelling collection. Very sparse, stripped back prose but with so much going on "between the lines." Most of the stories focus on couples and the failings of themselves individually and together. There is hope interspersed and it's certainly not a depressing read. A very promising author and I would highly recommend this book.
