Product Description

Product Description

From 1986 until its closure, Chris Limb ran the official Toyah Willcox Fan Club Tellurian as well as designing and selling merchandise during Toyah's extensive tours in the early nineties. This is not that story. This is the story of what happened before. It began on a dark winter's night at the tail end of 1979 when a nerdy 14 year old boy watched an episode of the BBC's detective show Shoestring and realised that there was more to life than Blake's Seven/Star Wars crossover fanzines. . .

A well written and "unputdownable" read, echoing a lot of my own teenage memories as a Toyah fan. Highly recommended to all those 40 somethings looking for a bit of 70's/80's nostalgia when music was actually good, or for any Toyah Willcox or punk/new wave fans. Perfect as a holiday book to dip into and make you smile.

A marvellous read 2 Feb 2012
By Bob Grist VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
I wouldn't just recommend this book (highly) to Toyah fans, but also to anyone who lived through the 80s and appreciated the music of that era. It's a very personal story and one that speaks to all of us who had, in our teenage years, an obsession for a pop star. It's also a great journey through the teenage years and how emotions affect us during such a time of growth. What is most notable here is just how giving Toyah was to her fans back then and of how much she indulged their fandom and friendship, most probably in a manner that many other pop stars of the time failed to do. At times it's a funny read, at others an affecting and inspiring one. It's extremely well written and the author doesn't hold back on describing his motivations at the time (being all too aware that he is no longer that person but able to reflect back upon the he that once existed with both affection and honesty). Definitely recommended by me.

Chris Limb charts his discovery of Toyah, and the journey through his adolescence and the late 70s/early 80s in such an interesting way that 'I Was A Teenage Toyah Fan' was difficult to put down once I started reading it.

There's much for Toyah fans of a certain age to identify with here, but this book will appeal to anyone who grew up in the 80's, anyone who has been a huge fan of a pop star or band (that's most of the population!), or indeed anyone who simply enjoys great storytelling.

A highly recommended read. Thanks Chris.
