Product Description

Review

Many books have been written about life on the Home Front during the Second World War, but few titles come in such a handy size as Wartime Britain ... it covers every aspect of the subject, including family life, entertainment, food and drink, shopping, transport, education, health and work. It is also packed with illustrations. --Evergreen Magazine

As with the book entitled Wartime Childhood, this book is just as good as I hoped it would be and as with that book, I plan to show this book to my adult grandchildren.

Concise and well written account of WWII Britain 14 Aug 2011
By Andrew J. Brozyna - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
The concise and well-illustrated Wartime Britain by Mike Brown is a nice companion to Reynold's hefty textbook, Rich Relations: The American Occupation of Britain. As with other titles in Shire's Living History series, the writing is complimented by numerous period photographs, images of historic objects, and specially commissioned illustrations. Although not focused on the American experience, Brown describes the British wartime life which the GIs encountered. The short chapters depict family life, neighborhoods work, food, safety, style, transportation, recreation, and the general mood of the country.
