Book Description

4 May 2009
Dan and Ursula return to the present day after months in King Arthur's England. They sought a way back home for so long, but now find themselves unable to cope with modern life. Ursula's incredible strength and Dan's experience on the battlefield make it impossible to fit in with friends. So when they have an opportunity to go back in time, neither can resist. They emerge in 878 AD, the age of King Alfred the Great. Vikings are rampaging through Britain and the King, defeated and weak, has retreated to the marshes. Dan finds him here, and he and Alfred's men begin plotting a counter-attack. But Dan cannot fight without Ursula. Consumed by her time-slip ability to wield magic, she has been captured by the Vikings who now revere her as a goddess. Everything hinges on Dan being able to rescue Ursula first from the Vikings, then from herself. This is an utterly page-turning, clever, and action-packed finale to the Warriors trilogy.

One of the best magical time-travel adventures yet written

`A wonderful fantasy series . . . full of accurate and sophisticated detail. [Readers] will find themselves out of breath and absolutely satisfied'
-- bookbag.co.uk

`One of the very best magical adventures of the past 30 years . . . [Browne] is a part of the grand Celtic storytelling tradition in British children's literature that began with Kipling's Puck of Pook's Hill, continued with T.H. White's The Sword in the Stone and blossomed in Tolkien and Alan Garner'

5.0 out of 5 stars At last... 13 May 2009
Format:Paperback
Oh my goodness, I have waited 6 long years to find out what happened to Dan and Ursula and FINALLY this book landed on my doorstep... and you know what, I was not disappointed.

Browne's writing is as imaginative and evocative as in the previous two books. Dan and Ursula are beautifully created, rounded, interesting characters - I really cared about what was happening to them. I won't spoil the ending for you, suffice to say that it is conclusive and I think this is the end of Dan and Ursula's time travel adventures, but I've loved every step of the journey with them.

If you enjoyed this book, why not try some of Browne's other works (especially recommend "Shadow Web"), or anything by Philip Reeve, Stephen R.Lawhead (the "Hood" series is excellent) or Eoin Colfer. I'm off to read all 3 Warriors books again now!!

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books 2 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
I read this book as an adult, and although I've not read the first 2 yet I will be and soon. The historical content is given to the reader (younger teens) in a way that will catch and snare anybody with an interest in this genre and history. I live in Somerset (where the book is set), and this book (as well a few others set around the same time) have opened up another world to me. The charactures are well rounded and the historical portrayle is wonderful. If you like Katheine Kerr and Bernard Cornwall you'll like this book, and if you liked this book read The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwall. I would say that N. M Browne is on a par with Mr Cornwall in Kids historical fantasy

Enjoy your read :-)

Not as good as the first two books. A drawn out plot.
But worth reading to find out what becomes of the two main characters Ursula and Dan
