Book Description

Discover the origins of the warrior Clans in the fourth book of this thrilling prequel arc in Erin Hunter's #1 nationally bestselling Warriors series. The Dawn of the Clans arc takes readers back to the earliest days of the Clans, when the cats first settled in the forest and began to forge the warrior code.

The first great battle has ended, and each group has agreed to a truce. But merely keeping the peace may not guarantee their survival. When a deadly disease threatens to strike deep into the heart of both camps, the cats must work together to find the only thing that can save them—the mysterious Blazing Star….

    From the Back Cover

"To survive, you must grow and spread like the Blazing Star."'

In the aftermath of the first great battle, the grounds of the four trees have been stained with blood and every cat has lost denmates and kin. Now, guided by the spirits of the fallen, the cats from the mountains must figure out how to move on.

Though each group has sworn to a truce, simply keeping the peace may not guarantee their survival. Having lost Turtle Tail and given up his role as leader to Thunder, Gray Wing is no longer sure where he belongs. Clear Sky is losing his grip on the forest cats to a dangerous one-eyed rogue. And worst of all, a mysterious, deadly disease threatens to strike deep into the heart of both camps—keeping tensions simmering close to the surface. Only one thing can save them: they must seek the Blazing Star. . . .

................................SPOILERS.................................... I did enjoy this book; however there were a few serious mistakes. In the other books, the beginning of the clans involves 4 cats (convieniently called Thunder, wind, shadow and river) all attempting to claim controll of all the forest cats after the first battle. This is resolved by starclan ( at the time called spirit cats) coming down and splitting the forest into 4, giving each of the cats leadership of a group. In this book, the spirit cats come down and tell them to grow and spread like the blazing star. Hunter was probably writing, and then gone "Hmmm i dont like this. Lets change it and pretend nothing happened". My second problem is that there is no action in the whole book. No battles, no betrayal, no moments where you lift your hand to your mouth and gasp. (E.G, Tigerstar announces his alliance with riverclan, also an example of lepoudstars genius leader skills) No, the whole book is spent trying to find out what the blazing star is. Dont get me wrong im a huge fan of erin hunters works, and have bought every book within 5 days of its release, But this book lacked what the others had.

After the first battle, the cats were given this prophecy, but they have no idea what it means. But they face bigger problems. An unknown sickness is killing off cats, and no-one knows the cure. Apart from One-Eye, a rougue that is made up of nothing but evil. But he hides a secret, a secret that Thunder has fallen prey too. The book is about the struggle for an answer and how sometimes, first impressions can be very wrong. I would recommend it to patient readers as it is quite a slow paced book at the start.

My daughter ( 12) adores the whole series of these books. I read this one at her request and altho it's not for adults in the same way that Harry Potter is, it is a very engaging story, full of the rights and wrongs of life in a clan of wild cats. I would recommend it to parents of animal loving children and children who don't want to hurry into teen fiction.
