Book Description

An inspiring and heart-warming short story of devotion and bravery.

A thoroughbred horse, Warrior, is passed through various owners before he is shipped to the thick of the action on the Western Front to serve as his current master’s mount for all four years of the First World War.

Warrior and General ‘Galloping Jack Seeley’ were involved from the first engagements through to one of the last, the Battle of Moreuil Wood. Together they fought in terrifying battles and witnessed the death of many horses and masters who served alongside them, terrible deaths, but through it all Warrior seemed to pass like a spirit.

This is the tale of his heroic wartime exploits and eventual return to the green fields of England. An evocative and powerful story of a real and great war horse.

Warrior’s story was the basis for the fictional Joey in Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Warrior who deserves to be remembered. 14 Jun. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The insanity of all war was never better exemplified than in the Great War.The fact that human beings were not only stupid enough to think that mass slaughter was noble, but that they involved innocent creatures with no stake in the outcome, shows us,if indeed we needed to be shown, that our species has no claim to superiority.Warrior was loyal and brave, and survived horrendous experiences which killed many others, yet still,in the end,was betrayed and treated like a disposable object by those who should have protected him.this book is a fascinating insight into his life and times, and the attitudes which human beings displayed to a singularly noble animal who should have been allowed to live his life out in peace, rather than being sacrificed to save food for people.A great read but a sobering one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 17 Mar. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had heard about Warrior prior to reading this book, but that had not prepared me in any way for the amazing bond that Warrior had with his owner or for the respect he received from all the troops.
It is an amazing story and very poignant.
