Review

"This amazing book captures in vivid detail Warren Buffett's most important management secrets, allowing the reader to take action with their new knowledge. Mary Buffett and David Clark have again shown their ability to reveal Warren's thought processes better than any other authors." -- John P. Reese, CEO, Validea Capital Management, and author of "The Guru Investor"

Product Description

The book is divided into several sections covering Warren Buffett's personal business management:

. Managing one's life - focuses on Buffett's insistence on a good education, picking one's heroes early in life, and staying away from things that damage you personally. The authors also discuss Buffett's belief that challenges make life interesting.

. Managing One's Career - Buffett believes that you should work at something that you are passionate about. Do what you like and you will find a way to make money. Do what you hate and you will be miserable even if you are rich.

. Managing Employees - place honesty on the same level as intelligence as a managerial attribute. How to keep managers inspired and working hard.

. Managing the Business - Buffett has learned that companies that have a durable competitive advantage over their competitors consistently earn more money year after year and are the easiest to manage.

. Managing of Personal Money - discover the simple rules that Buffett uses for buying other businesses and how he has incorporated them into his own personal investment style.

2.0 out of 5 stars Common sense is not a secret 23 April 2013
Format:Hardcover
There's very little of any great value to normal folk in this book. For example. the first chapter suggests ways that you can tell if a company is worth buying, which boils down to if they make a steady long term profit, and aren't in an industry that's likely to change that. If I'm ever in the position of considering to buy a company, and I'm not holding my breath, then I'll probably be able to work out that much for myself.

Early on, the book gives several examples of the "right" kind of company, name-checking them in the style of "if you want X, then you really want company Y". You know that company Y paid handsomely to be promoted by Warren Buffett, and that he more than likely has an investment in them that's bound to go up due to that product placement.

You have to wade through the self-congratulatory "Warren is a genius", "Warren is the 2nd richest man in the world", "More CEOs report to Warren than any other manager" nonsense in the search for nuggets of information, and when you find them, they're not worth finding. But that's the point - this shameless self-promotion is designed to benefit him far more than it ever will you. When you realise that, you'll understand why he's rich.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is management tips "ultra-lite" 2 May 2012
Format:Hardcover
Pretty disappointed with this. A large chunk of the book basically rehashes content from How to Win Friends and Influence People, as Dale Carnegie, who wrote this was apparently a big influence on Buffet early on. There are a few "nuggets" but they aren't worth the price I paid for this. To give you an idea how brief the book is, I finished it in less than 2 hours and I am not a particularly fast reader.

3.0 out of 5 stars No special secrets revealed 15 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
You won't find any revolutionary information here if you have already managerial experience and read respective literature.

It's about notorious basics:

- Find a Job You Love and You'll Never Work a Day in Your Life
- Dont borrow money, dont live above your financial possibilities, dont create debt etc
- Delegate as much as possible, and follow up on major things
- Invest in depression, sell on grow
- Listen your managers, surround yourself with good advisers etc

If you have never had a management book in your hands, you can start with this one. But for "newers" it's too hightflyer (how young independants can use advise "invest in companies in depression"???), and for middle-management these advises are too obvious.

Another thing that bothers me, the way Mary reads each paragraph "Warren believes..", "Warren hires...", "Warren does...". We know that all these ideas come from Mr. Buffet, why should she reminds it every minute?
