Fun:
This game is based before the events that are covered in Terminator Salvation so don't expect a genuine film tie-in game.
This game is not that great, but neither is it the worst game i have played. As far as third person shooters go it's not a patch on Gears of War. It is phenomenally short though - there are a mere 9 chapters to the game, and those chapters can last no more than half an hour, if you take your time. And that is on the hardest difficulty!
The in-game graphics are pretty average, though the developers have captured the 'feel' of the film and its post-apocalyptic environment. The cut scenes are pretty poor - some of the lip syncing is just dreadful. It plays okay too, though there are some on-rails shooting sections that are frustrating and repetitive.
The game plays much better on the ground when you play John Connor with his small team in tow. You can be quite tactical at how you approach your advancement through the levels and i enjoyed these sections much more. You can go in all guns blazing or take the more tactical approach using good pincer movements. The co-op works quite well, though even on a big tv the screen your character gets seems to be way too small to see what is going on. It would have been better to split the screen horizontally, rather than one on top of the other.
The worst thing though are some bizarre glitches. You are well and truly behind cover and yet still lose energy. And the worst one i came across was when i was hidden behind concrete barriers. At least halfway across the room was a terminator. The next thing is see is it performing a slap movement and i am amazingly pronounced dead on the scene! Shocking.
However, all in all i enjoyed the game - it is a bit of fun and one that will fill a gap between some bigger, more intense games. It is average at best and not worth paying full price for it - i would have been disappointed had i paid £40 for this! If you can get it cheap ; £10-£15 then that would be about what it is worth. The best way to complete it and get the achievement points would be to rent it for a couple of nights.
It is a shame really. There are some nice ideas in here, but none are really developed or finished off properly. The Terminators themselves don't feel terrifying or threatening and that was a big disappointment to be honest. But on the other hand it is nice to play a tie-in that doesn't go the really lazy way and follow the film.
Finally the achievements for this game are among some of the easiest to get on the Xbox 360. There are on 11 to get! You can get all these by playing the game through on hard difficulty in no time at all. So if you need another 1000 gamer points quickly, this is the game for you (for a couple of hours, anyway).

Fun:
I'd read the other reviews - which suggested that this game was sort of rubbish - but, given that I'm a fan of the Terminator saga and this game is now half-price, I thought I'd give it a go.

I was surprised - as this game is really good fun. I'm currently playing it on two-player mode, and it's a great war-zone game. As human resistance fighters, you make your way through post-Judgement Day city areas (blown to hell) and battle against a host of Skynet machines.

I like the way the game "fits" into the story-arc - it is set prior to the film, and, for example, the T-600 "skin jobs" (terminators with rubber skin) have just arrived on the scene.

The playability is ok (not fantastic, but average), the in-game graphics are fine for a 360 game, and the video footage is rather cool.

If you are a fan of the recent Terminator film, and you like 3rd-person shooting / war games (e.g. Gears of War) then you will probably enjoy this game. It's easy to play, and blowing-up the machines is fun.

I think far to many other reviewers were expecting too much - and, as a result, the game failed to live up to their inflated hopes. For me, having played every previous Terminator game (for the xbox), I think this is a good game. Yes, it might have been better - but it could have been a lot worse. If you're just after a few afternoons of fun with a mate, you'll enjoy this.

What A Letdown 27 May 2009
By Michael

Fun:
Like most people I loved the Terminator films and was eagerly anticipating being able to finally play a decent Terminator game which half lived up to the movies as all of them have been very poor so far. Unfortunately this game follows the same trend.

It amazes me that a game as good as Gears of War is based on ideas alone - no movie / book, etc.
I obviously haven't seen the Salvation film yet but can't believe it will be as bad as this.

The game is repetitive and full of glitches. For example on one of the levels you are somehow meleed whilst in cover yet the nearest machine is at least 20 metres away.

Most of the levels feel the same, shooting and destroying the same enemies (there are only 4 different types, mostly those stupid flying robots). It's just plain boring in my opinion.

The graphics aren't bad, then again they shouldn't be, but I've seen a lot better on the Xbox.

You get 720G just for playing through the game, 100G for completing on Medium difficulty and 180G for completing on hard. Hard doesn't have to be unlocked by completing on a lower difficuly so you can start straight off on Hard. It's a reasonably easy 1000G but Hard mode can be very frustrating at times, especially with the glitches.

There's no online or multiplayer game mode, only local split screen co-op so the game has no replay value once you've been through the game.

Overall a massive disappointment.
I wouldn't recommend this game to anybody.
