The Warlock's Secret is book 3 of The Supernatural Bounty Hunters series. Book 1 is The Vampire Contract; Book 2 is the Guilty Werewolf. This series must be read in order as the author is weaving an epic fantasy tale spread over multiple books.
As we start the story, vampires Joseph and Micah, along with the incubus Levi, have crossed the portal into Glitnir looking for evidence of the evil at the heart of the High Council. They discover a journal and suspect it's the one mentioned in the ancient prophesies but before they can delve further they are discovered and Joseph is captured by Councillor Ludvik, of the Fae Alliance. Suspected of being a magic user, Joseph is horribly tortured in an effort to get him to reveal his powers. Phin fearful of what Joseph is enduring at the hands of the High Council travels into Glitnir with Levi to rescue him.
Joseph and Phin have a history, an animosity born from their forbidden love. As magic users they are forbidden to be together, so they both tried to find love elsewhere. Joseph with the human Ethan and Phin with the Blood Demon Asher, but all is not what it seems.
Can Phin help Joseph heal from the torture he endured, and can they put the past behind them and work together to bring an end to the corruption of Glitnir? As the Journal of Days is opened, secrets and a surprising twist is revealed.
I have always found the RJ Scott's writing descriptive and the scene where Joseph is having nightmares while being tortured is superbly written, as are the dream walk sequences from Phin's perspective, they told us so much about Joseph and Phin, the kind of men they are, who, and what matters to them most. I loved both characters but Phin was my favourite, he was hurt and angry when Joseph chose Ethan over him and lashed out by choosing to be with Asher, a Blood Demon, and while he cares deeply about Asher Joseph is his true love.
The world building in this series is superb. The plot keeps taking new turns, it's like being in a maze, never knowing in which direction the plot will go next, nothing is predictable, you never know when the bit you've just read will morph into something really important, it keeps the reader hooked and interested. In The Warlocks Secret things are heating up now, sides are being drawn, decisions being made and plans set in motion.
I adore this series and eagerly await each new book and highly recommend it for anyone who loves epic fantasy novels filled with heroes and villains and an intensely woven plot.
