Hutson, like his compatriot James Herbert, has developed considerably beyond the brief and unambitious grisly thrillers of his early years. This adroit piece (a spin on Andy Warhol's famous remark that everyone will be famous for 15 minutes) has a mother panicking when her five-year-old daughter goes missing in a crowded shopping centre. Her relief when her daughter is safely returned by Adam, an attractive young man, turns into affection as she is tempted into an affair. But is Adam too good to be true? And is he responsible for the vandalism committed against her home and family - or is someone else seeking violent revenge? The narrative spirals towards a tensely rendered climax of menace and death. (Kirkus UK)
