Hours of fun! 1 April 2010
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Well AOBR (assault on Black Reach) is a wargame where you move miniature people/creatures around your dining tabble (cough I meant Battle Field!). Two Armies fight it out over the terrain and a game can last from an hour to a whole afternoon!

This is great for the kids reading practice as the rule book will require a little study, also their maths skills will improove as they add dice together and work out damage etc, but don't worry this is part of the fun. The over side to the gaming aspect of this game is the craft work that goes into preparing your armies for battle, cutting each component out of its frame, glueing and painting. This is quality time to spend with your kids.

The contents of the box is fantastic, so many models to make, some scenery, templates and dice etc you'll be busy for hours playing this game. The box set isn't the end, oh no, there's more. There are tons and tons of box sets that you can add to this game to expand your army or create a new one, buildings, paints and hobby centres so you can go along and be taught for free how to paint and game etc.

Great value for money, and of course great for you and your kids to get round the table for the afternoon and interact.

Delivery went well, well packaged. My son is very happy with his 40K. I've played Dungeons and Dragons in my youth but I really like this "next generation D&D" that my son is enjoying - It is a futuristic, strategic, creative, imaginative game, as well as a fun model/craft hobby for older children, teens and adults, very good basic starter box, seems expensive but worth it for all that comes with the set. Though the kit comes with everything you need, we also bought the Codex book and found it very useful and informative.

It takes time, concentration and patience to assemble the pieces and paint them (or not paint them, but painting is one of the best part of the fun) before finally playing the game. It's fun but also educational, as the game requires strategy, imagination and planning. Great for kids who like to build/create, to use concentration and creativity, is visually detail oriented, uses fine motor precision and organizational skills.

Wouldn't recommend this game/kit for young children, unless they have adult supervision/assistance. It involves manipulating very small pieces, assembly, gluing and precision painting skills. A few years ago, my son (now age 13) initially started with a small kit that came with a paint set and after more experience, worked up eventually to the 40K. If you like the game, check out the Warhammer novels and short story series as well!

This in my opinion (14 year old boy) is v. good. You are given everything needed to play warhammer 40 k I would recommend getting the plastic glue for this set. You can also paint them and you don't really need a base layer. This set would be really fun but my brother doesn't want to play it w/ me.

If you think that Games workshop is nerdy you are probaly an idiot because you probably play computer games which is even more nerdy

The kit includes an instruction book as well. I wish I had got this at the start because everything is really expensive. Seriously buy this if you are going to play, saves time and money.
