Maybe the big win in this “war” is this album got made at all. We don’t know what issues arose with SoPs previous label (Napalm) since “Darker Days”, nor do the details matter now: out of those behind the scenes trials and tribulations grew about both the best thought through and most successful music “Crowd-funding” campaign I’ve come across – plus we got the download a whole week ahead of today’s “official” release!

What you hear then is 100% what the band themselves wanted this album to be, altogether free of any “nudging” or worse from “the label” for ‘a little more of this and a little less of that’ and the like.

Like “Flame Within” and “Darker Days” before, this latest album makes for often complex and intense listening. It demands and deserves your undivided attention, on decent “kit”. So wrap both your ears and everything in between right around this one- this is no radio-friendly drive –time fare that still “sort of works” even if you only kind-of-half- listen to it

Always atmospheric, the album progresses from earlier created tracks very much in Darker Days vein to more experimental structures, tracks often evolve in unexpected directions –for instance here there are not so much “quiet one” entire tracks recalling “Nostalgia” or “Nadia Lo Ve” as tracks with opening passages that suggest they will be much like those earlier ones but then take you off on a different journey – and in a very good way.

Marcela herself has summed up the main themes or issues in her lyrics as “ conflict in all its forms: personal battles, like disease and depression, our own battle as a band to continue after parting ways with our label...(and) turmoil caused by the drug wars in Mexico”.

Love this album best album so far from Steam of Passion free from the confines of a record label they have let their creative talents unharness. It has everything you expect from Symphonic Metal soaring vocals from lead singer Marcela Bovio and heavy guitar riffs but the album also has at its heart also passion expressed in it's lyrics for example Monster with reference to problems in her homeland of Mexico or Don't Let Go an life affirming song to lift the spirits. Also outstanding the title song A War Of Our Own and The Curse but the whole album is a worthy buy that you won't be disappointed with.

I've seen the band on stage at the Underworld in London twice, and they were brilliant both times. But hadn't bought any of their albums - until now.

In my opinion, Stream of Passion are one of the best female-fronted metal bands around, and this album certainly captures them very well indeed. Power, but with melody. This album is the next best thing to standing a few feet away from them at the front of the stage!

Another stunning masterpiece from SOP! Even more stunning considering the lengths they went through to release it! A war of Our Own, the title track, leaves me with goosebumps and after a couple of listens of the whole album i found myself humming along to a lot of the tunes

Found this album to be just be very bland and lacking in originality. Nothing new and a not single stand out song. So disappointing as I loved their previous recordings and they are joy to watch live. A real shame.
