All I can say is the best way to listen to this album is in a peaceful place, through a pair of headphones and with the volume turned up as high as you can bear. Just allow your imagination to run riot while you listen to the story unfold. This has to be one of the best albums ever made and is an absolute must for any serious music collector to have in their collection.BUY IT NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!! Live every moment of the fight in victorian times, 9 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: War of the Worlds (Audio CD)
I owned this album for years and introduced so many friends to it, I lose count. My original copy was a vinyl album present from my Grandparents at Christmas when I was oh so young! and I was gutted when after years of faithful service both on vinyl and CD, the first disc was completely unplayable. The 'Eve of the War' is amazing, I dare you not to goosebump up when those cellos start to build... and the pulse starts to raise as you fight your way across London with Richard Burton, trying to make sense of the wierd and wonderful happenings (remember this is set in Victorian London). Your first real understanding of the era is when they talk about Thunderchild - the steam ship taking loved ones across the sea to (supposed) safety.. no such things these days... Ah, it floods back as you are taken on a rollercoaster of emotional highs and lows and empathise with the people met on the journey to understand what is really going on. I love it, this is my all time favourite soundtrack, and although the original 50's B-movie is also a firm favourite, this is by far the better medium to experience the HG Wells' story at it's best. Use your brain, and revel in it!

4.0 out of 5 stars The best Rock Opera ever, 17 Feb 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: War of the Worlds (Audio CD)
It's quite difficult to be subjective about this, it's so deeply ingrained in my childhood. But three twentysomething men sitting about listening to music put this on last night and let both discs play out, so entranced by it were they. I can't really see a new generation of kids being won over by it, as it comes across as quite dated now. However, it is an absolute sonic masterpiece and contains many classic performances, not least by Phil Lynott and Justin Hayward. This is - I think - the only album I've ever owned on vinyl, tape and CD at various points.
