Product Description

Product Description

One of the most memorable programs in broadcast history, the Halloween Eve 1938 broadcast of The War of the Worlds set off a nationwide panic that's almost unimaginable today. Listen to this fantastic adaptation as presented by the Mercury Theatre on the Air, and its creative genius, Orson Welles. The drama, based on H.G. Wells' classic novel tells the story of a Martian invasion of Earth. As written by Howard Koch, the play unfolds in a realistic documentary style, complete with simulated news broadcasts of aliens landing in Grover's Mill, New Jersey.

About the Author

Herbert George Wells (21 September 1866 13 August 1946), known by his pen name H. G. Wells, was an English author, best known for his work in the science fiction genre. Wells and Jules Verne are each sometimes referred to as The Father of Science Fiction. He was an outspoken socialist and a pacifist; his later works becoming increasingly political and didactic. His middle period novels (1900-1920) were more realistic; they covered lower middle class life (The History of Mr Polly) and the New Woman and the Suffragettes (Ann Veronica). He was a prolific writer in many genres, including contemporary novels, history, and social commentary.

I love this audio book. I play it all the time in the car. It's a lot better than listening to the radio and it seems to make the drive more enjoyable.
