Reviews

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis star as a pair of song and dance men recruited to the army. They soon discover that they are not well suited to military service. Slapstick moments include a now-famous soda syphon scene.

An good comedy this, one which showcases Lewis's unique talent for playing the fool. For those who havent seen a Jerry Lewis film, think a prototype Jim Carrey type performance with a high pitched Tweety Pie voice thrown in. Martin is good without being spectacular, but Lewis gets the best songs including the hilarious "The Navy Gets the Gravy But the Army Gets the Beans". This was the first of the many Jerry and Dean movies and one which launched them to stardom in the 50s.

I bought this dvd to impress my daughter with what made me laugh as a kid. The film takes a while to get going, but after about 20 minutes there are some really funny laugh out loud moments (when Jerry dresses up as a girl for instance!). The downside is definitely the poor quality dvd picture and sound.

If you want to be taken back to your youth however - for the price especially, it's worth a look.

At War With the Army is an average Jerry Lewis comedy. If you like the team of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, then you'll definitely enjoy this film. Like all their films there's comedy and music. However, if you don't know who they are you'll probably not enjoy this film as it's quite dated now. It's not a bad film.

What can I say that others haven't said about this great comedy duo, despite this being an earlier movie it is hilarious and great to watch a movie without bad language, and violence. What magic these performers created, a most enjoyable movie for Lewis and Martin fans.

Although this movie is very old it still has not lost that duo classic funniness about it. The tale is simple yet entartaining and very funny in parts. It reminds me of my years in the armed forces and the character that Jerry Lewis plays reminded me of some of the characters that I came across in my time in the army.
