in some cases an abridged edition of a book is a good way to make the reading flow because of excess themes or out of date language, but this abridged edition was basically a censored text. the author's main intent was to expose the acitivity of demonic spirits, yet a whole aspect of that acitivity has been excluded which makes the abridged edition part of the deception it was originally written to expose!

Having found a copy of the unabridged version - and having read the abridged version previously, I have to say that this abridged version is a travesty of the original book.

For the purposes of their own theological position the current publishers have felt justified in mutilating Jessie Penn-Lewis's classic and immensely valuable original for this pale and powerless shadow.

I would strongly urge anyone interested in spititual warfare to search out and buy the unabridged version it will repay the cost sevenfold, and you will have one of the best books on the subject ever written in your hands.

I liked this book, it sheds much light on demonic operations. The schemes of the devil, as well as the attributes of evil spirits and their way of attack is exposed.
I read this book twice, one time after the other. It is a difficult book to read, one that takes time because of the nature of the subject.
I agree with at least 85% of it, however it does not shed a favorable light on those Christians who manifest speaking in tounges, prophecy, etc.
The author is very conservative and that is o.k. but Charasmatic readers may find a tidbit of the author's analysis offensive.
Surely, as Christians we can look over those things we don't agree with, in order to learn more about the subject matter at hand.

1.0 out of 5 stars Large important parts edited out 2 April 2010
By Reader
This version has had large really important sections edited out. Whole chapters have simply been deleted. I would strongly recommend getting the unabridged version. I was horribly disappointed when i received this book, only to see that it was a shadow of the full text.

Strange, coincidence. I was actually GIVEN this book in our local church as part of a collection of books that were being given away. I know now that there is no way that if they knew what this book contained woudl it be given away like this. And the coincidence? I was reading, in detail, "Fantasy Island", you know, the book about the Blair administration. another book about gross delusion, deception, and Fraud.

Coincidence my foot.

I have to say that at the moment, it's as though hell has been turned upside down and banged on the table top,and eveything has fallen out and is all over the place. Eveything conceivable scam and con job is out there (especially in the public arena) and the subject is so huge that I could write about this until I was making spelling mistakes and getting tendonitus and I would only be scratching the surface. THis book really does identify critical and clear source texts and lays out EXACTLY what the Bible says about what is going in these last days.

I strongly recommend it. AS for the abridged edition, just throw it away and get the actual book, you won't regret it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Jessie Pen-Lewis would flip in her grave 9 Jan. 1999

After reading the original manuscript of the 1912 version of War on the Saints, I was suprised at the vast amount of changes in this version of the book as well as the "unabridged" version as well! Whitaker House, the publisher, has deleated many of Penn-Lewis' Biblical teachings on Christians and demonization. It is well documented that Christians tody CAN be deminically influenced. It is a shame that Whitaker House has republished this work claiming it to be authentic. To get the full message of what Jessie Penn-Lewis was getting at, you'll have to find a used copy. It will be well worth your time. War on the Saints is the most powerful book in the history Christian literature!
