4.0 out of 5 stars my personal views. 13 July 2000
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
As a novice to the 'Fantasy' genre, The War of Powers was an excellent book to introduce me to the world of magic, warfare, heroics and sex (it has to be mentioned!) and this, the second part of the saga did not let me down. It carries on the tale of Princess Moriana's quest to battle the evil that has claimed her city, and in carrying on a difficult plot (which could so easily have been written badly) Vardeman and Milan have successfully wrapped up the adventures of Moriana and Fost along with the style and flair of the first book. The characterisations are excellently done, even down to the annoyingly unearthly Erimenes ( who else could write a book about a man in a jug! ) All in all, a good book, and a brilliant sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good 'Adult' Fantasy Book 4 Nov 1999
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book follows on from Volume 1 (you really need to read volume 1 to appreciate this book) - it follows the Princess' quest to try and win her city back and in doing so unleashes an Evil that she then has to battle.....
The book is well written but certainly has an adult theme - the first fantasy fiction book with graphic sexual descriptions - but this does not detract from the quality of the writing which is excellent. I really enjoy Robert Vardeman and this is certainly is one of his better books.

This review is for Volumes one & two of The War Of Powers.

The story begins with Fost Longstrider a space-courier being assigned the task of delivering a parcel, unbknownst to Fost the parcel contains a jug and in jug the spirit of a thousand year old spirit called Erimines The Ethical who is supposed to know the secret of imortality, now Erimines was when he was alive a prophet of some fame, always speaking that physical pleasure was a sin, after a thousand years of being stuck in a jug the only thing the spirit can think of is the pleasures he missed when he was alive.

As Fost delivers the parcel he descovers the man who the parcel was for dead, at a lost at what to do he head mack to his city, along the way Fost meets Priness Moriana who be druging Fost managed to steal the jug contaning the spirit taking it back to her sky city, when Fost wakes up he start his persuit.

And this persuit leads Fost into a war with demons and the evil sister of Moriana and her sky warriors. This series of books are great, plenty of action and adventure with a great cast of characters, my personal favourite is Erimines, his one liners are quit amazing, I couldn't stop laughing.

A great series well worth reading!!

A hope this review was of help to you.
