With Black Bolt of the Inhumans caught in an epic battle with Emperor Vulcan of the Shi'ar, what does this mean for the rest of the galaxy? First, Chris Powell gets a new lease on life as the ascension of Darkhawk begins! But when his past comes back to haunt him and new information about his amulet and its legacy are violently brought to light, Darkhawk realizes he may have to face a much darker destiny that he ever realized. And when Gorgon of the Inhumans and Starbolt of the Imperial Shi'ar arrive on Sakaar bringing their own intergalactic war, they risk the uncontrollable rage of the green-skinned warrior! Will Skaar be dragged into the Kree/Shi'Ar fight? Plus, what shocking event sent Gladiator on his path to becoming the leader of the Shi'Ar Imperial Guard? Collecting War of Kings: Darkhawk #1-2, War of Kings: Ascension #1-4, War of Kings: Savage Sword of Skaar, and War of Kings: Warriors #1-2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dull Interlude in the War of Kings 24 Mar 2012
By No More Mr. Mice Guy TOP 100 REVIEWER
This volume reprints Marvel Comics' War of Kings: Darkhawk #1-2, War of Kings: Ascension #1-4, War of Kings: Savage World of Skar, and War of Kings: Warriors #1-2.
I found this to be an uninspired volume in the current Marvel Cosmic serial, when compared to much of what has gone before, with minor characters and what appears to be an attempt to give Darkhawk a boost into Nova territory with an expansion on his backstory and then throwing him in the deep end with the Shi'Ar. The subsequent issues are filling in backstory on characters such as Gladiator, Blastaar, Crystal and Lilandra, along with a team-up between Starbolt and Gorgon on Skar's world. There are several seeds planted for the future mixed in, but it seemed to be a cobbled-together collection with uninspired art and writing, though not surprising when you consider the competition from previous volumes. I have given it four rather than three stars because of that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but a bit unnecessary 24 May 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If You know the War of Kings/Realm of Kings storyline You shouldn't bother with this, if not, this book is definetly worth a try, the storyline is great, very enjoyable, the characters are likable and funny when needed, the art is fantastic, it’s good to look at. I recommend this book to anyone who loves comics or just interested in getting to know the genre.

3.0 out of 5 stars OKaaaaaaaaaaaaaay 20 Mar 2013

This story was hyped up by the description. Not a bad story, but the visual build-up in the storytelling could have been a whole lot better

2.0 out of 5 stars Underwhelming and unnecessary! 23 Jun 2013
By S. Penrose - Published on Amazon.com
No matter what happens, Darkhawk is not cool. It seems like writers have tried quite a few times but Darkhawk just hasn't been made interesting mostly because his character is completely ripped from others. Chris Powell is also whiny and uninteresting. The best part of this book was the first look into past of Gladiator and his role in the universe. Other stories involving Blaastar or Gorgon just seemed unnecessary. The art overall was good but this collection was mostly filler.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story 3 April 2013

It's a complimentary story to the war of kings title. Some important things are covered in here, gladiators story is the best one here IMO
4.0 out of 5 stars Great collection! 15 July 2014
By Darryl Carter - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
An awesome bit of the War of Kings with many characters making the panels their stage and strutting. Each of the characters on the cover comes to life and shows you who they are regardless of whether you may or may not agree with their morals. Cosmic Marvel tends to take the unbeaten path and do it excellently exploring facets of the sci-fi comic genre without being too mundane.
4.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed the Fraternity of Raptors stuff 20 Jun 2014

I wouldn't say I'm a huge Darkhawk fan but I really liked the Fraternity of Raptors plot. Too bad that plotline looks like it's been abandoned.
