Product Description

Review

Inevitably, War Child will invite comparison to Ishmael Beah's A Long Way Gone, another memoir by an African boy-soldier ... War Child is very different, very much worth reading, and when you think about it, much more believable ... You'll come away from this book loving Emmanuel Jal (Carolyn See, WASHINGTON POST )

An astounding narrative of human physical endurance (Evening Standard )

While it may be that no portrayal can ever bring us close to the reality, Jal does afford the reader an insight into a terrrifying existence (New Statesman )

Review

'Astonishing and often harrowing' --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Emmanuel Jal is a worthy Nobel Peace Price candidate, if there ever was any. Read his book to understand why. It's a good read, but the quality of the prose will not be his claim to fame - the story of his life will be.

Fantastic 8 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
Incredible book. couldn't put it down. So sad, i'm sure not many people know what goes on in Sudan. It's very educational and informative. Well written, and an easy read. I would recommend it to anyone. After reading this book I would like to see the documentary "War Child" and listen to Emmanuel Jal's music. Very inspirational.

Amazing! 28 Feb 2011
By Melaine
Format:Paperback
Brilliant book if you are interested in African/Sundanese affairs, modern politics etc. The story of the child soldier is brilliantly told and leaves you with vivid images of life in the refugee camps, moving around the Sudanese dessert and near death on several occasions. Another thing that I really liked about this book was the hope and perseverance which Emmanuel Jal had, this book is a true inspiration.
