Abandon any preconceptions you may have of Hall and Oates, be they the white soul images of She's Gone, or the MTV friendly fodder of their later career, War Babies is up there with the best Todd Rundgren albums, and that's praise indeed. A relentless cauldron of psychedelic vocals, funked up bass lines, bad ass Todd guitar, Steely Dan-esque hooks and cracking tunes to boot, War Babies is A Wizard A True Star revisited, and demands attention and its due credit. Ultra-rare, and apparently disowned by Hall and Oates who objected to Rundgren's tinkering with their material, your world is a better place when this is in the CD player... Buy this record. Today. It's that good.

simply the best 27 Jan 2008
Format:Audio CD
Imagine if you can what hall & oates would have sounded like if they'd become a rock act, not the silly 'soul lite' act they became for much of the 80's and 90's. They completely ignore this album whenever they release a greatest hits, and shame on them for that. This is also the great 'lost' Utopia album, featuring as it does a line up which never recorded anywhere else. Siegler was still on bass, but wilcox had just come on board as drummer; the musicianship is therefore sublime. Simply put; the greatest thing they ever produced. the combination of Todd Rundgren's influence with hall and oates vocals an songwriting is as stunning today as it was in the 70's. Quite rightly re-issued as part of atlantic's 50th year celebration, this is one of the best albums of the 70's, and yet remains almost unheard of.

The Best? 19 Jan 2007
Format:Audio CD
.
Without any doubt this in my opinion is the most creative and inspired rock album ever made. Hall and Oates have never made a better one. The level of muscianship is simply amazing because of Todd Rundgrens undoubted influence. He arranged and produced this album and provides some incredible guitar work through out. The creativeness flowing out of each track is just sublime with each successive hearing. The quality of the songs are simply superb. Imaginative and varied encompassing a number of musical styles. Halls vocal work is truly stunning throughout. I make no apologies for the accolades poured on this album, because it is simply magnificient.

If you are ever marooned on a desert island this is the only album you need. Some 33 years on it still the most definitive album of all time.
