This is book two in the Stepp Sisters series. In this story we meet Ellie the Middle sister, she has never moved away from Millbrook unlike her other two sisters, when they left she stayed to look after their Grandmother. Now she is the librarian at the local library. When she and her sisters were young they were bullied at high school, by the popular crowd, the ugly stepp sisters was the collective name for them, Ellie's personal insult was Ellie-phant. Ellie has been dieting her whole life trying to lose weight, but she remains curvy, and not measuring much over five feet in height doesn't help either, at least her other sisters are tall, her elder sister Abby who is a brilliant scientist, is married to former class bad boy Chase, and her younger sister is a supermodel and travels the world. Ellie was bridesmaid at Abby and Chase's wedding, and Mason Sweet the town Mayor was one of the groomsmen, Ellie has been in love with Mason since high school, but she knew this tall blond former high school quarterback would never look at her. Mason had been married to a tall beautiful woman, although they had divorced. He was still out of her league. Everett Winslow wants a new football field for the high school and suggests the money to pay for it come from the library's budget. Ellie goes to Mason for help hoping to get his support against this idea. Mason agrees to help Ellie if she does something for him.
I love a flawed hero and Mason is definitely that. Since his divorce he has been drinking heavily. Even so he was a great character full of contradictions, but really sensitive and sexy. Ellie is just a very sweet girl is perhaps a little too trusting. I loved the story it is a real page turner, Abby and Chase from the first book are also in the story and we also meet Marty the youngest sister whose book is next. This is an emotional passionate and romantic read I heartily recommend to everyone.
