Tony Ross was born in London and trained at the Liverpool School of Art. He has worked as a cartoonist, graphic designer, and art director of an advertising agency. He taught art for many years at Manchester Polytechnic. He now works as a full time author and illustrator and is one of Britain's most prolific and acclaimed children's book illustrators. (19990927)
