5.0 out of 5 stars excellent aid to get rid of that dummy 15 Nov 2005
although my daughter wasnt yet 3 I realy felt we didnt need the dummy anymore, when we read this story together, she immediately put herself in the same place as the princess and actually gave all her dummies to our friends new born. this book was a godsend. The little princess stories are a lovely set of books, and we will be buying more !!

3.0 out of 5 stars Just one problem!!! 24 Feb 2013
By Daisyo
My daughter is nearly 4 and absolutely loves all the little princess books. She received a gift set for Christmas and after 3 months she still wants one of the books reading every night. I don't agree that the books encourage brat like behaviour, my daughter points out how she should be behaving but then finds it very amusing as well. The reason for my 3 star rating is that out of the 8 books we have this is the one i like least. My daughter never had a dummy so i have no idea if this book would encourage a child to relinquish theirs, maybe not?! My problem with the book is that one of the occasions where the little princess has her dummy snatched is during the night, her cry after discovering it missing "burglars have taken it"!!!!! Every time i read it, I get "what's a burglar? "do they cone when you're asleep?"Not one of the harsh realities of life i wanted to worry my 3yr old with.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a success 28 July 2010
By susanh
Sorry but I really don't like this book. We bought it as we thought it might help our daughter to get rid of her soother, but, if anything, it makes her want it! She demands to have her soother if she's reading it. She's 2 yrs 4 months and I don't think she gets the message behind it. Perhaps better for an older child but not a success in this house!

Does exactly what it describes. Have yet to take dummy off little one but am also aiming to use Santa Claus as a tiny incentive too.

Anyone who thinks the Little Princess is a "spoilt brat" is missing the point completely. As with all the Little Princess books, she has to endure many trials (in this case, as with all the others we read, the other well meaning but unhelpful adults of the court hiding her dummy from her) before she realised she can manage without it, and then passes on her much loved comforter to her (younger) cousin. If you enjoyed the charming (and very useful to help those who don't always make it in time) "I Want My Potty" at all, you should also love this. You can never make a child successfully give up a dummy if they are not ready. If they are half thinking about it, and trying, it will be lovely to let them know that The Little Princess struggled too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disapointed 6 Aug 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My little girl loves the LIttle princess stories, and it's time she was encouraged to give up her dummy as she is 3 years old and I thought it would be a great book to help her, This book was a great disapointment to me because it made her want her dummy even more after we finished reading it and I also do not like the bit about burgulars coming to take it, I have to skip that page, I am now searching for more ideas.

I don't like this book. It calls the little princess 'silly' and as she is always shouting for her dummy, I don't see how this will help my daughter get rid of hers. My daughter loves it and loves shouting "I want my dummy" with the princess...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book actually works! 4 May 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I read this to my 3 year old daughter who I thought would never give up her dummy. After reading it twice (along with The last noo-noo) she turned to me and said "mummy, can I give up my dummy too?". I was absolutely stunned but it worked!
